Maybe you have already but you can negotiate medical bills just like anything else.

Either way, it sounds like you're close to having them taken care of. 13.5K puts a huge dent in a 15K debt.

The Surfite will rock! Can't wait to see it come together when you're back up & running again.

It's hard to see something like that go, but just think of the sense of freedom you will experience not having that debt looming over your head. Stay strong, Dude.

    I applaud your actions.
Many people just go into bankrupcy and don't care about paying people what they owe.

  6. ^^^ kudos, another one will cross your path soon I'm sure.

I wondered why I saw that for sale. Don't worry about the car the fun part is in the construction and it sounds like you plan on building another soon, good luck.

Before you slap that $13500 down to pay the bill, sit down with them and ask if they would settle the $15000 debt for an even $13500. Let them discuss it and I'll bet they'll take it. Of course, like any other settlement offer, get it in writing that the debt is paid in full so they don't come back later and try to collect the $1500 down the road. Good luck and sorry you had to go through all of this. It's my worst nightmare.

  12. Hodaddyo,
Sorry to hear about your car. Hope ya get another one soon. I've been in a similar situation myself! Got crossways with a couple of banks on a construction loan for our business. Those banker types can be ruthless - especially the large corporate banks. I would "waltz across Texas" to pay bills owed to friends and other family businesses. That is just the thing to do! But I'm no so sure that it's the same thing working with one of our big heartless and predatory corporate banks! They will F%$K you in a New York minute! Also, if we had affordable health care/insurance in this country more of the working cl*** and middle cl*** would not suffer these catastrophic fates. Read the book "Credit Card Nation" to get another take on this! Anyway, good luck and keep fighting! I hope ya get another car of your dreams!

sorry to hear that dude.....but well done on getting things dealt with......that must have been a hard step to take.
cars are always around if you have your health. doesn't work the other way around.

  15. Hope all is well with your health...sorry to see you have to let it go but it's good to get those bills out of the way 'cause those *******s will hound you to death...last year my daughter, Gianna then 2 years old, suffered a rattlesnake bite and I had to sell a 57 packard wagon that I just picked up to help cover the deductible...they only made around 900 of those but they only made one Gianna Marie for me so it was no sweat...

man, ****s to see something like that go... but looks like you had a legit reason.

listen to what Amen said. medical bills are some of the most price-gouged and frivolous expenses out there. $40 tylenol and **** like that.

not sure if you have already exhausted all efforts on this yet or not, but i know first hand that most medical bills can be negotiated. i had an x-ray on my back and was sent a $2k bill... for 3 x-rays.

i told them there was no way it cost that much, and i would not pay it until it came down some. i then received a call from a rep saying they would settle it for an immediate payment of $450. i paid it, and that was the end of it.

they will also accept a very small payment amount if it is consistent. and depending on cir***stances, most medical bills dont effect your credit like other bills do.

just my 2 cents... i am sure you explored all options before letting that beautiful roadster go. who bought it?

SAD! but you're a good man!!!

my fiancee is a surgeon here in L.A. and and in she told me that most uninsured people who she operates on dont pay their medical bills and if they dont pay up she doesnt get paid, people think that surgeons are all high rollers but thats all in the past , nowadays they make **** for saving people's lives. so i give you major major major props for taking care of your medical bills and parting ways with your sick ride..... but something will come your way out of this whole thing.. GREAT KARMA MY FRIEND!!!

P.S. i cant think of any other line of work that people have to service you no matter you get paid or not!!!! CRAZY **** MAN!!!!

I have been there, wife and daughter both in two years time. I had to sell my road race car, trailer, and tools.
Both the wife and daughter are fine now and the good news is I ended up here, and now have three traditional hot rod projects going.
Keep in focus and good luck.

Aman, 63 nova, and some of the others have the right idea. I'm not sure what the details of your situation are, but a few months back they just had a huge report on the local news about medical bills. I'm not sure if you already know about this, or have already looked into it, but this information may help:

If you don't have insurance, or your bills aren't covered by insurance, you're en***led to a discount from the medical provider, but you have to ask for it, otherwise they won't give it to you.

Also, like someone mentioned, those medical bills details are filled with scams, usually because insurance pays, such as - a box of kleenex or something will be ***led "sanitary saftey tissues - $200"
The people on the news story researched online, and got free local legal help with their bills and were able to greatly reduce the amount they owed.

Anyways, best of luck to you, if you need me to try to find more information on the story or anything, let me know, I'd be happy to help ya out. :)

    Rob, man...
That is ashame to see, but debt free is a good feeling, when that weight is looming... I know I've gotten rid of a lot cars under the same ( financial, anyway...)cir***stances, and its always a good excuse to start planning the next build, anyway!

The car came out great...and if you need some bits and pieces to start another, let me know...I'll contribute what I can...

Negotiate the bills - our insurance ran out on physical therapy a few years ago. Hospital charged the regular rate of $200 per visit. I got them to knock 40% off down to the normal insurance rate - ended up talking to the hospital CFO. Saved about $2500.

thanx mark, and thanx to everyone else. i actually just got out of the hospital again yesterday. i was out for the end of the auction for a day or two and then went right back in... i'm home now but just had another bombshell dropped on me.... my wife wants and is divorcing me. the stress of my disease i guess has been too much for her. the martial problems started w/ my first visit to the hospital after being diagnosed about a year ago. before that it was martial bliss believe it or not.
i guess it caused a tremendous stress on her both financially and w/ kids and work and every time i went in it got worse. so much for "sickness and in health". i guess it just shows the true strength on her character or lack thereof. i would just ask any hambers out there to keep me and my children in their prayers. i really could use it right now. thanx again everyone. its almost like having family that you never met before here on the hamb. thanx guys and God bless.

i might be down but i'm not out. the surfite might not be an exact clone. but it will definitely be Roth inspired... maybe it will even be "green"... green as in electric or bio diesel. lol

Just saw a bill go from 46K to nothing! Medical that would have never been paid, they just wrote it off. Never happens to me! Deal with them!
