Well everyone, I finally have gotten my car on the road... 7 years in the making! It all started when I saw a '40 deluxe hood hanging in my uncle Vern's rafters when I was 14. I knew what the hood was from, and asked him where the rest of the car was. He showed me, and that summer (July 14th, 2001), we picked it up from what looked like it's final resting place. It had been sitting in a field since 1954, and had no frame; just the main body, dash, rear fenders, and decklid. The front fenders had been torched off and were lying upside down next to the car. My dad and I found a '52 ford flathead for it, and used a frame from my uncle Vern's '37 Ford coupe. It's got a 4" dropped axle up front with unsplit bones, and an 8" rear. The flatty has an Offy super dual intake with two Ford 8BA carbs, a Mallory Dual Point dizzy, Red's Headers, and original Sharp finned aluminum heads. (which weren't on the car when these pics were taken about a week ago) I'll get better pics of the flathead up soon. Enjoy!
Hopefully by July- I've got some bugs to work out of it yet- mainly the technical difficulty with pressure in my cooling system- I think I've got a leak at my intake mating surface, so the coolant boils out of the rad. cap and overflow tube. There aren't any cracks in the block, so ???? I've got another intake gasket, and I've heard that you have to have intakes planed...is this true?
The hood is sittin' around- I'll put it on eventually. The "peak" in the roof is actually the result of praying one whole side of the body and then the other instead of the whole roof at one time.
That's a fine looking '40 and the story about the hood is just one reason this should be a keeper. Frank
