Well, it looks like I can only make it out of town one weekend in August (due to vacation time and $$$$$$). I need to meet with a business contact in Springfield, MO sometime in the next couple months. I noticed that there are 3 "significant events" not too far from there in the month of August, and I have never been to any of these. So which one would yall say is best? Cruisin' Branson Lights (Aug 12-15, Branson, MO): Seems a little "chainer-ish", looks like a lot of poodle skirts and crybaby dolls? But it's real close to S'field. Hangin' Dice (Aug 27-29, Ft. Smith, AR): I enjoy the Dennison show that KKOA does, and my car is more kustom than rod. (Though I dig both!) and of course, HAMB Drags (Aug 20-21, near Joplin, MO): this looks like a lot of fun, though I am not too interested in racing my car (unless the time slips can show minutes, not just seconds!) The Saturday cruise sounds fun, but what exactly IS going on with that part? WZjunk? The swap in Springfield adds to the appeal here too. I may have just answered my own question, but I'd like some honest input from those who HAMB. Keep in mind that both my car and my brain lean more to the kustoms than to rods.
Go to HAMB drags. No questions, just go. Watch other guys go down the 1/4 in a blazing 30 seconds or so. Watch bitchin FED's and such skate all over at the top end cuz it's slippery. Go to swap meet IF you get bored.
I agree, HAMB Drags no question. Also is Bonneville speedweek beginning of the month, but HAMB drgas is closer to you.
Thanks for the input! Anyone else? What do yall know about the S'field Swap? Is it worth going to? (Do they sell car parts worth taking home, or is it like Pate where most vendors have nothing but a rusty SBC valve cover out there with a ridiculous price tag just so they can park their Winny and drink all weekend?)
Hey slide, do not worry about time slips. I am trying to take my International Harvester Pickup...that's right FARM EQUIPMENT. I guarantee you will post a better time than me, but I want to meet some people and hit the swap meet so come and race me
Hands down..... HAMB Drags! No question about it... and it really has nothing to do with your time slip etc. For me it's about about the people. Spending a weekend, with like mided folks, just enjoying our hot rods and each others company is what its all about. The HAMB Drags and Speed Week at B'ville were probley the two best weekends of last summer for me.....well, Hunnert Car Pileup was pretty cool as well
What...did ya forget Louisville? Just kidding. Dont forget 'Shades' in Sept., the 6th is a holiday so you only gotta take 4 days off.
345- Yah, I was kinda thinkin 'bout Shades. I heard they upped the cutoff for year models (mine's a 52), and I have rodding family/friends in NC, so we were talkin' 'bout hookin' up there. Thing is, last time I went to shades (around 96 or 97?) it was real crowded with chainers and chainer wannabes. But then I heard it imploded, crowds left, and got pretty kool. Anybody know anything about that? So far it's lookin' like its gonna be the HAMB Drags...unless I can be convinced otherwise.
HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags HAMB Drags You get a cool timing tag out of the whole deal. and If you aren't slow you can run up with us. By the way, are you coming back to the shop tonight (Tue), or did we scare you last week? TZ
flt-blk- yeah, yall ARE pretty scary! But I might come back if yall let me. Prolly won't get over there tonite, but maybe next week? Not sure I'd WANT the timing tag from my car, tho! LOL
