Is there anyone on this board that has any interest in a Hudson 308 engine and the dual carb setup that is on the engine? Anyone have any idea what the value of this is? I don't want to price myself out of the market and by the same token, I want to get what it is worth to fund me a small block chevy engine for the rest of the car.

    PM me or e-mail me:bjharris@mynewroads.com

 I'm confused, why would you give up something that cool for a SBC belly ****on motor?

I'm a long time Chevy guy with a garage full of SBC stuff. I bought my Stude with the intent of swapping in a SBC/200-4R. After getting it running on the Stude engine and putting some miles on it I decided to keep the Stude drivetrain. It's just too damn cool and it has a sound all it's own. I'm adding a sprinkling of vintage speed equipment and dress up items as I can find them.

If you must I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a home for the 308 but give it some more thought. JMHO.

I'd keep the Hudson engine, too, but if you insist on doing some trading...!

That would be so nifty in the roadster aka vintage style race car that I am collecting pieces for. Too long a road trip for me though.

The downside of the hudson motor is that when you need parts somewhere....

THAT'S why people run SBC's. That and you can actually afford to build a sbc...and it will usually kick the *** of anything else in it's price range. The hudson does have a cool factor...like a flathead ford but more obscure.

    Thanks

  18. I'd swap about 5 small blocks for the 308.

I'm kinda partial to em. Drove ours to the Cinematic and back last
year. 2800 mi. in two weeks without an oz. of trouble.Clifford head/
    headers,full flow oil filter,Crane electronic ignition.Parts aren't really
an issue either.Highway speeds not an problem with a factory overdrive, and with the original 4.5"stroke it pulls like a mule.

Bill, my apologies for getting your post off track. I'm sure you have your reasons for not keeping the 308 and you have to do what works for you. If you didn't have it I'd probably be the first one to say "Put a small block in it." but MAN , a Twin-H!!! Just think about it before you send it down the road OK? ;)

To the SBC people that were apparently offended by my referring to them as "belly ****on motors" I guess you only read the first line not the one where I said I have a garage full of them. I have been eating, breathing and sleeping SBC's since I was 17 years old, I'm 52 now creeping up on 53, you do the math. The sound of a Duntov 30-30 cam in a 283 still stands the hair up on the back of my neck and one of my favorite engines is a small block dressed out with a 50's Vette dual quad setup and valve covers. I know all about how cheap they are and how easy they are to get parts for etc., etc., etc.

I used the same arguments for swapping in a SBC when I first bought my Stude but you know what? By the time I either bought the necessary adapters or fabricated them then built the engine, trans, etc. upgraded the ch***is, electrical system, brakes and suspension to handle the 360 HP and 440 FtLbs I had planned I could rebuild the Stude V-8 with some vintage goodies, rebuild the suspension and do the body work and paint and have a far more unique vehicle. While not "fast" by today's standards it will still easily keep up on the interstate, have plenty of p***ing power on the two lanes, is capable of mid 20 something gas mileage and has a very unique exhaust note. As they say, "To each his own." ;)

Keep the twin H. I recently seen just the breathers for one go for way more than what a 350 is worth. My friend in Nebraska is putting the original twin back in his 51 Hudson and he sold me the 303 Rocket that was in it. I love the rocket but would have jumped all over the chance to get the twin H. It is very cool, parts aren't that hard to find, it will get down the road strong too. People will stop and look and want to talk about the Hudson motor, the 350 is just ho-hum, another sbc. Nothing wrong with them, just ordinary is all.

    HI Bill,

I think Sean is out. He doesn't want to restore that Hudson now. I think he's gonna sell me the old drivetrain and sell or s**** the body. That's a cool motor you've got though.
