Ok I need some help here. I am building A 1930 Model A highboy (unchopped) on a 32 frame.Frame was built by Dropped Axle Production in Cincinnatti ,those guys know how to put together some awesome rides. Ok enough for the plug. I am running a stock 32 grill shell and gas tank.Drilled dropped axle, hair pins buick drums all around ,and wide whites on steelies. The frame is painted a flattened black.I was going to do the body in a flat black also but that seems to be a dime a dozen now. I don't want to repaint the frame but I think I want to go with some other flattened color other than black for the body. But not sure if that will look out of wack with the black 32 rails? I like the coupe that is known by many hamb people as the "coupe de cab " gold with the black scallops, that might pull the black frame into the color scheme. Have been thinkin also about some shades on the hot rod flatz colors with the black scallops.Any thoughts ,or pics would be appreciated. also any pics of cars where the frame was left black,or pics of cars using the hot rod flatz colors would be great. Thanks in advance
My opinion (not worth much) is that 32 frames should be painted the same as body color. I always think it looks a little off to me when it is painted anything but body color. My other opinion (worth a little more) is that a black frame will give the illusion that the vehicle sits way too high. One of the benefits of a 32 frame is it gives the illusion the car is lowered more than it is because the frame hangs down so much more than an A bone frame. You can get away with it if your car is all black, but black frame and different color body will look too high IMO.
is the car channelled? if it is not, I agree with Comet...'32 frames are pretty big compared to an "A" frame and, in my opinion, stand out when they differ from the body color
I prefer the frame and body to be the same color. Check the 'A' currently done at Pinkees Rod Shop. They section by one inch the frame rails which makes a great proportion. You might be able to paint only the part of the frame that shows.
outsides of frame and body the same color. leave the inside of the frame flat black to give the illusion of an un boxed frame.
