I was looking at the pics from the long beach ink & iron show and got to thinking. When did this hobby become such a magnet for these trendy "too cool for you" folks? Is this about the cars, or about your ****ies pants and slicked back hair? People in the 50's dressed that way cause that is what they had back then. So why in the 00's do these kids feel like they have to wear the uniform to be into old cars?

Its just a rant I know, and maybe I will make some enemies but I just had to share. Its about the cars and the work to me. Not about how much pomade and rolled jeans you own. Its like the rat rod thing, if it truly has patina good. Making it look like it has aged poorly is stupid. Just my 2

I think people just like what they like.
I catch a lot of ****, from the younger guys I know, because I listen to 50s, 60s and 70s music.
There's a lot more less productive things, that kids could do, than dress that way and go to car shows.
Hell anything that keeps the hobby going and the younger kids involved, and building old cars rather than building ricers, is OK with me.
The more people we get involved with this hobby the better.
Just like other trends the ones doing it for the wrong reason will fall by the wayside, and we make make pick up a few more hot rodders along the way.

My sister-in-law is one of these types and all she cares about is the look, the cars mean nothing more than an accessory to her. I just don't get it, we go to cars shows to look at cars and they go to car shows to look at themselfs.

Wear what you want and don't worry about it.

  6. Who cares what they wear...people will wear what they like.

Perhpas you'd like it better if todays kids drove around in trad rides dressed like some gangster rapper who's pants look like he took a dump in them? See what I mean ?

Its all about the cars - people can wear what they like, who cares?

    Next......

i dont think that what people wear makes any statement at all about how much they are into cars or airplanes or jungle jims.

****ies and pomade, or cargo shorts and flip flops doesnt tell you ANYTHING about how much work someone did on their own car.

this has nothing to do with anything except for one person's need to hear themself speak.

Just consider the source! There will always be elitists in every corner of every world ! As many have stated at least its not alot of things .I understand your frustrations as many that are more of a car lover than a poeple fashion statement lover ! In due time the truehearts will outlast and the others will feel outcast ,because they chose the wrong way to gain the attention of others ! Just my 3.79 opinion of go juice,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,C.D.

I get a kick outta the kids who wear the shop uniform shirts around, when I go out I always leave them in the closet for the next work day.

O.K., so you just described 3/4's of all Harley riders. :eek:There're there to be seen. I think "the motor company" makes more on t-shirts, leather and accessories than they do bikes. (Which is good, they have something built which doesn't leak or require regular maintanance just to use.):D

Sounds like somebody has been paying too much attention at the people at the car shows instead of the cars. Im a people watcher myself. I go to the car shows to see the cars but I get a kick out of the people too. After all I did all I could do in the early 70's to shock the 'establishment' generation.

Without all the scowling little bad-***es standing around in their black t-shirts at the shows...how would we know we were at the right place...and who would be there to run their mouths at everything that drives by with paint on it???

We need them as much as they need us!!! :D
