not sure about there... but seems like here $300-1000 depends on who is buying and over all condition and all... i may be way off, hell i may be no good as always! hahha.... seems like a 390 would be worth a lil more than a 331 or 365... u should get it for yourself... if its a deal
1963 is sort of an orphan year for the 390, from what I remember with my Dad's '63... Most parts interchange thru '62.
63 is pretty much a one year engine...try here if your buddy wants to sell one... http://groups.msn.com/196364CadillacCommunity/general.msnw
carefull, the 59-60 390 are differnt than the 63, the trans from 63 will not mount to a 59-60 or vise versa. very similar but differnt
one benefit of a 63 390 is it bolts to a 400 trans which is a fairly cheap tranny, In that same aspect you could bolt it up to a 4 speed easy and cheaply. Caution:Some if not all information could be invalid
they're not worth much. i still find 49-62 motors that have been pulled out of cars for free. i have two of them in my shop. the 63 wouldnt be worth more, being a one year cluster fuck. lots of guys seem to, unfortunately, be pulling the Caddy motors out and putting in SBCs. that's where i got the last two that i found. couple hundred bucks, max. -scott noteboom
so has anyone ever actually done a sbc swap? i would really like to do so to my 63 caddy. anybody got any links or info please let me know.
You have a SBC in your Caddy?? That Caddy motor should slide right back in. I paid $300 AUD (that's about $27.50 US) recently for a '60 390. Needs a complete rebuild. Pete
say what? no i dont have one in there right now...there isnt a motor in it at all right now. i was thinking about a 350 just because this 63 390 is such a step-child.
that's alot of car to pull for a 350. Performance wouldn't be that good and prolly mpg would suck too. Just to small an engine IMO. Keep it Caddy
We are putting one in my son's '64 coupe. 400 sbc with a turbo 400 behind it. The motor is at the machine shop, the trans is having the 4 inch tail shaft changed to a 9 inch. We used '66 chevelle mounts that we switched sides and turned them around backwards. The motor sat too high on the frame so it needed cut out and boxed. Now the drive train lines up using the factory drive shaft. I'll Post a couple more photos when the motor and trans get back.
