Doodlebug donor for a RPU build. Good idea??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Jun 10, 2008.

  1. I really would like to build a RPU someday. I found this Doodlebug for real cheap. Would this be a good start for a RPU? It is the cowl, grill and most of the frame. Or should I go a different route??

    Thanks,
    Todd

Sure it's a good start. A cowl is as good a place to start as any.

All we had to start with when we built this was a rusty old cowl. I wish we'd never sold this one... If anybody knows where it is send me a PM please! Best of luck with the build.

  4. I'm starting off with not much more than that. I'm making doors, only thing I decided to buy is a pair of repop cab corners, just to save a little time and effort. All the rest is fairly easy flat sheetmetal.

What does "most" of the frame mean? Is the rest of it in good condition becuase essientally you will probably onl use it and the sheet metal, maybe the axle???.

Is it local as gas prices are high and so is shipping?

But if its really cheap like a $200 you cant go wrong.

    Keep us informed.... :)

Another bonus is that the windshield posts are still there. They're often cut off a doodle bug it seems.

If I'm not mistaken you also have all your suspension and steering componenets. I believe the doodle bug is real narrow though,
    but not sure about that.
