Was working in an old mans back yard in Pasadena today and went home with this! Said it came out of his 56 special....with 30,000 miles on it. Been sitting for 30+ years...hopefully I can save it.
Make certain all sixteen valves are moving before you ever attempt to start it. Nailheads are notorious for valves sticking when left unstarted for a long time.
Not that you can ***** about a free nailhead, but it's probably not a '56. Buick stopped using that valley pan and valve cover style in mid '55.
I agree Bob, I had to pay for mine. 5 grand so far and probably double that to go just to build this ****er! Free.............. I WISH! Great find you lucky SOB!
Yes... I know the valve covers and valley pan look 53/54 to me, but its a 322 that came out of his 56...so
Nice motor i had one for my 63 buick and it was a tank it pulled my car around like nothting but one prob i had was that the cam lobe was rounded like a Dime and i had to get a new cam something to keep in mind and the place i got it from was Pastons someone correct me if im wrong but they had alot of buick parts.
Leave the neighbor's dog alone... You gotta love these Krause books, I thought I'd post some engine number info so you can track the ID down, but it says the numbers are in various locations on the crankcase or cylinder block and gives no info beyond that at all, except that numbers were mixed in production. The 1954 chapter helpfully notes numbers began with Y-273956, also. My guess is best bet to ID for year will be by the casting date codes.
Want a free Lincoln motor? A guy down the street was trying to give it to me the other day.....early 60's big mf-er. Oh yea, it is two blocks from "Kansas".
Well fellas...not such a great score...I had to blow the heads off two pistons...not a biggie. I guess I still have a good nailhead. Ill try and post pics tom. I tore the thing completely apart...a million pieces al over my shop floor!
