Anyone done any documentation covering a 35-37 Ford pickup chop?

I have googled it and surfed Yahoo. Checked the hamb archives and looked through all my old mags.

I know that some guys frown on leaning back the a pillars but what other options are there where a guy doesn't have to cut and section the roof area into a lot of pieces? I would like to see how the pros attack it.

    Thanks

I also looked everywhere when I was thinking about chopping the top on mine.
The only two options that I saw were either leaning back the windshield posts or splicing sheetmetal in the roof area.

There has to be someone who has done an article in a mag or taken pics as they went. My dad chopped his by leaning back the posts. I think it looks ok, but I am a hack.

    Here's my pop's 36.

That is your pops?? Bitchn little truck, I saw that in a show post the other day...

So, if your truck is already chopped....you need more info because of.....???

PS. That truck looks sneaky fast. Is it?

  5. Done a 3" chop on mine. Only whacked it side to side, nothing front to rear. With this much done you only need to add about 1" of filler metal to the slit. If Henry had it to do over he would have made it 3" shorter.

Yeah, that 265 that was in the Fly used to live in that truck. It's not so fast now, just his driver.

It's not his truck I am thinking of chopping . I have about 3 more just like it.

Sorry, no photo documentation, but here is a good argument for leaning them back. Butt Reynold's chop looks good, but I like my chop more (haha)!

...and here is a mockup of where the fenders will reside after the channel....

I'm running fenders and I think the angle chop helps the flowing lines of the truck. If it's going to be a fenderless deal, you can probably get away with adding material to the top, as a matter of fact, I think it probably suits the look better anyway.

I posted a thread awhile back called "chop -in-progress pics lets see em!" and some of the replies I got may be helpful too.

Not certain, but about 5 outta the front and 4 and half outta the back? The fellers don't remember and no one saved any pieces OR took pictures!! It was a quickee shop truck, just for grins project, the a pillars look good but need some more work for sure....

If 3 is the magic number, I'd definitely lean the A pillars, a few relief cuts here and there would get you home....

Did bdrake ever post any tech on chopping his truck? His website doesn't show any, but shows a lot of other stuff.

  17. I agree with Jeem if you are only going to cut it that much lean the posts. here is my 37 Chev about 2 1/2" out of it super easy.

  19. Thanks. This was the first thing I ever tried to chop and it was fairly easy. Try to make all of the cuts in the straightest sections and then set the top back on and tweek the posts until they line up again.
