One man modifieds continue to buzz around in my head..... Boones posted this pic in another thread. It caught my eye & left a few asking if this is the real "Bo Jones" modified. Admittedly, the color does look deeper & the finish looks very fresh. If it isn't THE car, it's a dead ringer... & I love it. Does anyone know who owns the Bo Jones car? Anyone have better pics? Does anyone know if a touring front half be built from repro steel panels? TIA, JH
That car was featured in Hot Rod Magazine awhile back and on one of the early episodes of Hot Rod TV, Bo Jones and Gray Baskerville drive around in it,...I have this on videotape and I could convert it to DVD but I'd still need to know how to YouTube it.
It isn't the 1st Bo Jones modified..........it's nice, and it looks simular, but the orig. had hair pins in the rear and split wishbones in the front. The second "Bo Jones" modified is ok, but the 1st one is on my top ten list.
I've looked thru Mac's and Rootlieb's websites, and I can only find certain parts to make a body. The tail and side panels for sure. Not certain on the doors. For sure (when I looked last about 6 months ago) not the cowl. I wondered the same thing, as anytime I ask the dude at modelthaven.com about those pieces he is clueless as to what I'm talking about. Maybe it'd just be easier to get a touring and cut off anything that doesn't look like a modified. Jay
I LOVE that car. Anybody remember that Bo had a T sedan at the same time, in the same color scheme, that was also ***s? Completely stock body except for an oval rear window -- definitely a builder with a distinctive style!
Somewhere, I have some photos of that car (the orange one) stashed away. Not on a cd though. It has always been a favorite of mine.
I liked the Bo Jones car from the first time I saw it featured in Rod & Custom way back in the 1960's. The car I'd like to find is the clone Art Johnson built here in Connecticut in the very early 1970's. It was orange & red but unlike the Jones car had a full race Flathead.
Yeah, louvers, bigger bigs, little-er littles, more rake, more ornate..... Dang, the one Boones posted looks downright sterile!
we had this topic a few years back, his cars always struck a chord with me........wonder if the old thread can be found (I havent ran a search)?
BTTT... Does anyone know what magazine/s the original Bo Jones modified was featured in? Also, would still like to know more about the more recent version pictured at the top. I've found a few pics but no text on the car... Interesting to see how wheel & tire combos changed over the years. I think the version with the headlights pulled forward looks strange too. Wonder what brought that on? TIA, JH
Your first pic is THE ONE. The second pic, (same car?!), has a TERRIBLE choice in rolling stock. Itty bitty knobbys? Smaller back tires? Headlights too far forward, maybe they were attached in a way to operate with the steering? Who knows?
I have a mag feature of both his cars together(sedan AND mod). I think it is in HRM circa 1969 or so.
Tman, I know you have better things to do, but if you ever get a chance to dig that issue up, I'd like to know what year & month it is.... or maybe you have a scanner? Thanks, Jim
Find an August '95 issue of R & C for a feature on the Bo's Modified & '25 Tudor both owned @ that time by Bob Schoonhoven. Gimme a minute & I think I have the issue of R & C that had Bo's Modified in it back in the 60's.
There was a big color two page deal of him kicking up dirt, took the same time as the R&C article, in the Street Rod Pictorial they use to put out. Around 1970-1969. I would show you but I tore it out when I was a kid and had it taped to my wall in my bedroom! Alweays loved this car
This car is cool!! Not only is beign driven......it's power sliding in the dirt and on pavement. Way cool!!! I only wish the pics were bigger.
You can get a roadster or touring cowl still pretty reasonable and the rest can be pieced together, I think doors might be the tough part unless you want to run without doors. Panels can be found here: www.fordor.com
It seems his cars made a big impression on MANY of us! I am 38, the mag I saw (and still have) was one of my dads old ones that I first started looking at around 5 or 6
Thanks for posting this, Wisenheimer! I've only seen random pics of this car, still don't know much about it.....
