I just called Jay [NOSURF]... He said they`re all OK ... The totnado that hit Chapman went about 1 mile north of their house... That`s getting too close for comfort!

Here in Iowa City / Cedar Rapids its getting pretty interesting. They are talking of shuting down I-80 for a couple days, shutting down Hwy 30 and maybe even shutting down I-380 and Hwy 965. There is a hell of a lot of water and they are talking it is not going to crest till the 18th or the 20th.

Here's a link to some video of the tornado in Manhattan, KS last night. Looks like the camera might have been mounted on top of one of the buildings at KSU. I work in the area, so I've seen several pics taken by some of my co-workers on their way in this morning.

I went to high school at Chapman. Talked to a friend who lives over there this morning. His house is ok, but a tree landed on his car. Early estimates were that 80% of the town was damaged in some way, but they've backed off that a little, now its at 60% (as per the radio reports).

  11. For real.

I was worried about you guys too. Also there was the tornado out in Loveland last week. Thought I heard everyone was OK though.

RATRACE29 hope your boy is OK, just heard about this this morning.

One was at the end of the 100 years and the other at the beginning of the 500 years. ;)

Had a round-about 40+ mile detour to get home from work on Monday (normally 7.5 miles). All bridges in Marshall county across the river were washed out or under water. Skipped work Tuesday due to the same reason. Looks like I may do the same tonight and tomorrow. River is supposed to set a new record high Friday morning.

Iowa City will get all the water from up here next week. Get out your hip-waders and have fun!

As of Wednesday Cedar Rapids downtown forced a mandatory evacuation of all residents and buisnesses within the 500 year flood plane and sent my buddy and I running home for Nebraska, where we drove right through the night of tornadoes last night. What the hell is up with all of this weather, its like "God is Pissed".

All day Wednesday we ended up sandbagging and bunkering down the firm which made it look like Cedar Rapids was getting ready for WWIII. Apparently by Friday the river is suppose to peak to 25 feet I just hope everyone is ready for whats coming my thoughts are with you.

I got absolutley hammered last week. The entire front of my property was under water. It was as deep as 6"... I'm on an acre lot. There was so much water that it forced water into the house through the foundation. Just last night I was able to get the water in the house under control. As soon as I cleared one area it came back through the foundation and filled back up.

For 3 days it was 12 hours of fun with a shop vac and floor squeegee...

Oh, and the house got hit by lightning. That wasn't fun. Lightning never bothered me before... but when it hits 8 feet from you... and your feet tingle for 10 minutes... it makes you appreciate it a little.

The lightning fried my phone lines... took out my cable boxes and modem... my VCR and my big screen TV. That hurts the most. So for a week now I've been without internet at the house (or my 9-month pregnant fiancee' has anyways) and only a 13" TV to watch. ITS HELL... HELL I TELL YOU!

Compared to most of you I fared ok...

This photo was sent to me today. I'm told it is the tornado that hit the Boy Scout camp, as it went through the town of Little Sioux.

I have no idea. Seeing that would scare the **** outta me. I'm hoping whoever took that photo, turned around immediately (they may have been in a building, looking out a window) and ran to take cover.

I'm willing to bet alot of folks that get that close to a tornado don't do it on purpose. I know I would have liked to avoided the 2 I have been involved in.

One was when I was just a kid. Wathing Cartoons after school. They issued a tornado warning for Randall County (where I lived) and I looked up just in time to see the porch peel off of the house.

I have never, before or since, moved that fast in my entire life. I was in the bathtub before You could blink.

The second time, I was asleep after a school trip in the back of a suburban. we drove into it. I woke up with Brian "moose" clince on top of me. as You may guess, "moose" wasn't a ballerina.

    Lightning is interesting stuff, too.

God likes to throw things at me. It's cool. keeps me on my toes.

This freakin' rain is like the energizer bunny! it just keeps coming and coming... flood stage is 12 feet. Cedar River is now forcasted to crest at 32. I've got a call into Noah to hitch a ride on the arc.

Oshkosh really got nailed this evening with rain. Thankfully the house is dry, but I went down to the shop and watched the water rise. Got about 12" throughout the shop. Water was just about up to the running boards on the 39. Pretty helpless feeling. They are doing a lot of road construction in the area and I think most of the storm sewers have been dug up. Wonderful.

Quick hint; If you're fighting a loosing battle with water in your ba*****t, it's best to clear your stuff out and shut off the sump pump. The hydraulic pressure difference between water outside and no water inside can cause the foundation/ba*****t walls to collapse inward.
I know, it'll hurt sacrificing the furnace and water heater, but ya gotta have priorities.

we got a series of downpours this PM. Probably another 3". Worst of all, they got more than that upstream. We are at the confluence of the Crawfish and the Rock. It is really up there. The old guys say they have seen nothing like it. Many, many acres of farmland are swamped. Good thing prices are high, or we couldn't survive. The river crossing on the main highway through town is closed, the railroad bridge is going to be next. Today, they were towing vehicles from behind the big body shop next to the river. Guess the DNR gestapo figured some petroleum fluids might end up in the river...as if it would amount to a hill of beans. This is bad stuff, folks. And we won't see the peak until Sunday or Monday.

We've had it rough in Wisconsin, Lake Delton which is a pretty good sized lake in the Dells broke it's banks down and spilled into the Wisconsin River.
Here in Mukwonago we're waiting for our damn to break, it's at the point where it's not a "If it's going to break" it's a "When is it going to break?". They are saying the concrete is breaking from the weight and stress from the water. If it goes there will be four towns that will be under water in the local area here. Luckily I'm on high ground.

That really ****s, I hope the weather slows down a bit for you and the many many others. My girlfriend lives in Milwaukee, and I live in NW Indiana. We have both lucked out on any real terrible weather. If anyone needs any help with anything, feel free to PM me.
