Checked the HAMB (he's an Alliance Vendor) and he's not been online since 10/31/07. I sent him an antique Mallory distributor to restore for me over a year ago (Dec 06). Got an email from him asking for payment, that it was ready to ship sometime in March 07. After paying him ($270+) I got another email in April saying one of the point sets was bad and didn't pass QC and that he was waiting for replacements. Wrote in July...he said he'd won a set of points for it on Ebay and should be shipping it out soon. Didn't hear from him again till I wrote again in August asking about it (trying to be patient and not bug him). Got another runaround about points being hard to get and Mallory not cooperating. Didn't mention the Ebay points. Wrote again in September...I was trying to get the car on the road for Cruising the Coast in October. Still no points...but worse yet I'm having to contact him for information instead of him keeping me informed. Wrote again in November...no response. Wrote again in December...no response. Wrote yesterday (over a year later)...no response. Does anyone know if he's still in business? Can anyone vouch for him as being a good guy? This sucks...out a distributor AND good money to fix it with. Had to buy a new Mallory to get the car on the road.
He's good. He rebuilt my Mallory about a year ago and sold me an NOS Magspark coil to go with it. Converted it to full mechanical, said the vacuum design using a piston was not the best. Communicated by email and phone a few weeks ago to ask a few question and confirm some other things before we installed it. Fired up the motor and everything runs great. Nothing but good for me. I also notice he was on here yesterday. Did you try calling him? Here's a few pics of my Olds 303 we put it in.
No, don't have a number for him...I've always dealt with him through emails (and I like having a record of when I contact someone that I'm sending money to). I just double-checked (searched) for posts from him and the last one I can find from him was back in October...what did he post yesterday? And I'm glad he did good for you...maybe it'll all work out in the end...if nothing else maybe I'll end up with something I can Ebay.
I just got back some 1950 PLymouth gauges and dash chrome he restored for me... Cost $1500.00 bucks... but boy are they pretty... Very nice work. Mike s a little lacking in the communication and it did take about 5 months but no problems.....I always used email... If you want the email address I used, shoot me a pm... Jason.
PLEASE keep me updated. I will call tomorrow as well... Alliance Vendors need to be much more responsive that this.
UPDATE.... Received an email from Mike today. He apologized for not staying in touch and said he was still unable to get the correct points from Mallory. Quoting from his email: "I did not want to alter the point plate to run a different style point (I was counting on Mallory to fix their problem), but it looks like I will have to do that. Rest assure that I fully intend on completing the job you contracted me to do and in no way was I attempting to walk away from this with your money. I do not screw people. Again I apologize for the major delays and excuses but I'm telling you the truth. I'll have your distributor finished up within two weeks and back to you. I'll email you with a tracking number the day it ships out. " I'm satisfied with that response... It's possible that the two latest emails I sent to him never reached him - I was using the original email address I'd been contacting him with and apparently it's been changed...but I never got a bounce back. If anyone needs to contact him, his working email address is vintageignition@yahoo.com
So damnfingers Did you ever get your parts back from Mike?? noticed yer last post about it was from jan/08 FRITZ
He did A speedo for me two years ago. It work great, no prombles with it at all. But it cost A lot and it took A little longer than I thought. But then again it is A SW 5" black face 120mph speedo from the early 40's. so where do you find parts for that? he did and it works great. The one thing I didn't like is that I live 1/2 hour from him and he wouldn't let me swing by to drop it off or pick it up. I had to mail it to him.
Yes, I did...sorry I didn't post that here as a follow-up. I did email Mike since then to find out what kind of points I should buy as back-up and never received an answer though.
I can understand that. I have to tell customers I don't allow pick ups (I don't charge postage either) as my wife simply doesn't feel comfortable with strangers at our home. Subsequently, I direct them to a shop I supply.
