I'm doubting it because of the nature of internationals being work horses and not hot rods but I've heard of some alleged speed parts for international harvester engines. Any truth to it? I've got a 1953 six inline banger. I'd love to see a valve cover or intake for it.
The only piece of speed equipment I've seen for a cornbinder is an Ellis dual intake manifold. Ellis only made intakes for truck engines, and I've even seen them for the old gas powered Macks. I'm sure that Mallory made a distributor for IHCs; they made one for virtually everything back then.
Cool, thanks Heathen! I got on Ebay just now and got an Ellis manifold for $100 complete with carbs. It's going on the 53 international and brings my total investment to $328 so far in that truck. The truck is actually pretty rust free and has the six cylinder four speed and a clear Indiana title. I guess not many people like the old Internationals but I think they are good old trucks and you can get em cheap and still get parts for them. Did anyone make a valve cover?
You're not alone. I know a couple of guys here into Inters. They've got 'em from little trucks to dump trucks to semi's. Takes all kinds!
Back in the day they used to run them in the six cylinder modified class on the dirt tracks. So, at least around here, it's hard to find one, they were all used up. I have a fresh 57 263 on a stand in my shop.
I've done alot of searching myself, since I have a '57 Binder with a Blue Diamond 240ci Inliner. Not much out there for them.
Several years back crane made several grinds of cams for the old sixes but haven't checked lately. Talk about low end those ole sixes would pull the house off the foundation. I wouldn't think it would be hard at all to fab intake and exhaust manifolds. Also pertronix still has electronic conversion kits. Pool
ihonly.com is now manufacturing an aluminum 4bbl for the V-series of engines. Definetly getting one for my 1951 L-110 project. jn6047
OK, so thought I would dredge up this old topic, as I have changed my projecdt plans quite a lot in the last while, and I would like to help others out there with these bastard trucks. Needless to say, there are quite a few performance parts out there, you just have to look in the right places. For IH V8 gas engines (28?-304-345-392)there are the following: -IHOnly aluminum intakes (fuel injection or carb) -finned or plain aluminum valve covers -Mallory distributors -DUI distributors -Pertronix Ignitors -Vertex Mags (they will build one for the IH V8s) -Forged Pistons (Venolia was the cheapest I found at $70.00/hole -Murpheys Motor Service roller rockers -lots of different brands of camshafts (most manufacturers have IH grinds) -crank scraper Now, the IH Silver Diamond Straight sixes (early 50s 220-240-2??-301) there are even more parts. Turns out the IH 460 and 560 tractors ran an engine very similar in design to the Silver Diamonds (C-221, C-241, etc). They also happen to be quite popular for tractor pulling: -Ellis intakes -custom heads -crank girdles -Pertronix Ignitors -custom fabricated valve covers, oil pans, and push-rod covers -custom pistons, rods, heads, cams, etc -Murphey's Motor Service roller rockers So, yeah, lots of parts available if your willing to search. Hope this is helpful for other people. jn6047
Not much for the flat heads, Im looking into taking a few thousands off the head just to true it up. Thers no sence in going too radicle ,Ill just get a speeding ticket . The way it is it will do 45 in the quarter mile.-- tooooo fast for me
those trucks are very cool how the hood opens to the left or to the right. I almost bought a cab 2 years ago at a swap but couldn't find anyone willing to help hoist it into the bed of my truck...
