Have you guys heard of "Powerbond" harmonic balancers? Supposed to be Aussie-built.

    Any opinions?

I see these on Ebay offered by a US seller. I'm looking for one for my Hemi...

I jusy asked a Mopar buddy, he said that he heard about them in regard to the slant six motor. He thought they were an American company that re-bonds old balancers.

I've heard of them. They are just another run of the mill brand - nothing special. Personally, I wouldn't run one on a big HP motor.

Friend of mine is building a flathead with a lot of "outside the box" stuff on it and he machined up all the necessary components for a balancer in stainless steel then got Powerbond to do their bit. I tell you if there was any doubt about the quality of their work he would not have used them and Flatoz will vouch for that.

They are a small company which manufacture in a country town in New South Wales and were willing to do a "one-off" job for my mate. That in itself says heaps about the company.

I've used them for years. They have different levels of performance as you will learn from their Website (link above by 55OLDS88)
They have been recommended and used by more than 1 engine builder I know, I would always buy these as my first choice when screwing together a motor ( I will also say I am not a Professional just do a lot of listening and learning from those in the know)

toddc - I have no idea about the water pumps

yeah wouldn't hesitate in buying one, i work just around the corner from the factory and have some mates that work there. They supply balancers to a lot of race engine builders including v8 supercars which is basically our nascar. they are an international state of the art company operating in a small rural town.

dont know on the water pumps. they could be chinese? but since your dissing them, have you actually used their stuff??

    support a local man.

I havent used their stuff but know a heap of guys who have.

rat bastad is one, he thought it good enough to put on his flathead, and I think he has run them on his mopar motors too.

but if you have an experience then share, no one wants to get caught.

but the guy 'swifty' refers too complained as a journal on a cam was a half a thou under what I told him, he's **** beyond anyone I know.

I haven't used their balancers, but have used a "Powerbond" water pump. It lasted about a year.

I have had one of their SFI approved balancers on my 454 for about five years and have not had a problem with it. I will definetly use one of them again in the future. I would prefer one of them than a Romac which I know of two of them coming loose and stuffing up the front of the crank. Chris.
