I have a 54 Buick Special with rear lever style shocks. Is it worth it to change to tubular shocks? My plans with the car are a simple lowering job with the stock drivetrain. No autocrossing or anything. But like other cars I have had, I plan to drive it on the highway alot. I have to imagine that new shock technology would vastly improve ride quality. But I could be wrong.... Why is it that in '50 Cadillac had tube style, , the rest of GM seemed to have them shortly after, but Buick has the older style all the way to '55 by what I've seen?? LOL. Does anyone know of a kit or at least some part numbers of some shocks that can be used? Or maybe some tips on how to do it?
Levers are OK but as you mentioned newer is better when it comes to suspension stuff . The most important factor is ,with tubes, you have an infinate variety of of types , firmness , etc AND they can be replaced easily from any parts house. You'll have to rebuild levers yourself or send them out . Save the levers for a nice early rod project . I'm sure someone here would want them . I keep them when ever I run across a pair .
