Well, after a couple of weeks of putting the deal together, today was the day we picked up our "new" ride. It's '47 Mercury coupe that we bought from HAMBer "S****s" (Kurt Fontaine) and his partner Paul Day. You probably remember seeing the car in one of Denise's posts a couple of weeks ago. We left Kingsport this morning at 5:00 AM and headed up across Kentucky and up the I-75 into Ohio. Approaching Cincinnati you almost couldn't help but hum the theme song from "WKRP in Cincinnati" This is Dayton Ohio, we're almost there! And there it is! It's gonna need some work, but that's what we wanted, a project. Here it comes! I promise you, this is the only time this car will be trailered! We spent $250 on diesel to go 722 miles, round trip. Back in Tennessee. Safe at home, at last after a total of 14 hours on the road. It's getting dark, we're tired, we'll unload it in the morning and post more photos then.
Short term it needs some brake work, need to get the wipers working, and a couple other minor things. Then it'll get driven. Long term plans are to make it a safe, reliable, road trip car. We want to be able throw a suitcase in it and just go, without having to think about mechanical issues.
Sorry I didn't post earlier, our internet connection at the house has been down most of the day. Anyway, we got the car out of the "box" this morning. And into the garage. After just having our roadster and the wife's little daily on that side of the garage, this car seems huge!
Ahhh. The "Cut in the hill" ... See dem brake lights.. Thats one of the biggest accedent spots in Cincy.. look at the skid marks!! Its backed up all the time. Killer Car! Glad to see you had a safe trip. Joshua Shaw
