Years ago we were selling at the Pate Musium swap meet (when it was in the mud at the musium) and a couple of gals walked by carrying what appeared to be very cold bottles of beer. I hollered out "Hey, I'll give you a buck for one of those" that was when a case was about 6 bucks and she hollered back " hell no, I just paid a buck each for them". Swap meet economics 1974 style.

    domestic beer was $10 , imported $11 :(

but don't blame that on the Roadster guys , all the food and drink is controlled by the fairgrounds and they know how to squeeze a captured crowd ,

I get a twelve pack of good 'ol Schlitz from my market for $5.49 and that's in NY, man!
I'll never pay anyone ten bucks for a lousy beer. Ahh, come to think of it, beer should be FREE.

Fortunately I had a heck of a good friend in the Street Rod parking section who provided me with 3 bottles of the nectar my system was so in need of....Funny the beer stand people were not wearing mask or saying "Stick-em Up".

I'm not a baseball fan but I love old buildings.

So when I found myself in Detroit three days before the last game atTiger Stadium i took a little ride up there to take in the game.

I bought a $30.00 upper deck ticket from a season ticketholder for $15.00.
Great seat right behind the 3rd base coach.

Got thirsty...what the hell. I bought a $10.00 beer from the roving vendor. Tasted good so I got a large at the concession stand... 32 oz...$16.00.

    Yikes... but itwas cold...and tasty.

Like the man said, the fairgrounds controll everything but the LAR clubs designated area for open car exhibition, swap area, & some shade spots & emergency trailer space on picnic hill. I would not cave in for 10.00 per "Rent a Beer" either!!!!!!!----------------Don

    I KNOW!
I spilled a few drops of my $10 Coors and nearly cried...those few drops probably cost $2.00.
Heck, the beer at the show was more expensive than gas!

I don't give a shit what they charge people to get obnoxious but the real crime is there isn't a fucking WATER FOUNTAIN to be found anywhere on the grounds!
THAT really should have a law!

    (locked-up buildings, excluded)

Right on Jimmy. Bet there were a bunch of Russians after the revolution say "WTF did we just do?!":D

I have been guilty of paying high event prices for beer. Last year at the Pileup almost everyone INCLUDING the vendors ran out. There were a bunch of us that would have paid $10 for one then!

It looks like a lot of you go to swapmeets/car shows to drink, I go to buy parts and look at cool stuff.

I found a beer stand in the swap meet that had a real bar, shade, & barstools......I felt right at home. Having a place to sit in the shade and rest my aching dawgs almost made It worth the $10 I mean $20 because I had 2. By the way the blondie barmaid was not topless but was hot with GREAT cleavage.... So there is an upside to almost everything:D

I'm not shocked. Our local ballpark charges 9 bucks for a beer and it's nothing like a big venue. City officials learned a long time ago how to make money on captured markets!

Wish I had seen that "bar'... Maybe I would have had another one too. I have no use for "commies" and regulatory laws but seems to me to be gouging. Being retired and on a fixed income times are getting tough.

  25. There IS a law, it's called "Supply and Demand".
They supplied it, it's up to you to NOT demand it.
Don't buy and it won't be supplied.

Theory says that if no one bought beer at $10.00, next year the beer would either be cheaper, or non-existant.

If they sold out of $10.00 beer this year, next year it would be $20.00.

Beer at the NSRA Nats in York was $2. I didn't buy it-I was there to see the show. Water fountains were free and cold. I always drink bottled water in places like Thailand and India, but anybody who buys bottled water in the US is nuts! People, they run tapwater into bottles and sell it like it was special. I never go to a show or outdoor event without carrying my own water bottle. from home. Safe, clean, free.

  27. Shoulda come by the HAMB tent...free beer and chili all day...for HAMBers that is ;)

  28. I'm with Mutley, go to the show to look at cars and get parts!
BTW this show is one of few fairground events they don't hassle you when you drive in you old cars, we walking in the spectators entrance with soda's and lunch, that save us about 20 bucks..
And we don't drink beer at shows, it's useless.

The fucking television marketers have convinced the American Sheeple that you can't possibly have any fun without drinking beer!! Sheeeeeeeeesh.......can't anybody go anywhere without HAVING to drink beer? Water is far better for you in hot weather and doing all of that walking........

But you makes your choices......you want a beer that bad???? Dig for the going price......
