My cousin bought a old 63 biscayne gasser today It has straight axle front and the rear wheel openings are cut open for slicks. He wants to or is thinking about a scoop on the hood what is a good looking one that is old not modern looking.I will get pics tomorrow of the car. Post your picks of any cool looking 63 gassers. thanks Darrell

  2. Tinted clear plastic one would look nice on that body or maybe an old fiberglass thunderbolt style.

A good friends dad ran a 64 Impala SS back in the late 60's, although not a straight axle "gasser" is was every bit a street strip terror that had the "look" down pat..Saphire blue flake, etc....
He ran one of these on it.

Of course he had a tunnel rammed 327 filling the hole in the hood though..
I've seen the pics hundreds of time's and just love the looks...
My friend is actually building a clone of the car now not that that has anything to do with this..hahaha

    Anyway, just another thought.

I would vote for the clear plexi, or the aluminum Ford truck scoop mentioned.

Those two (especially the second one) were typical in the era that these cars were raced competively, in superstock and FX classes.

The Ford scoop used on Pontiacs was still available from Ford Big Truck dealers, part # is B7QZ-961-A. I don't think the factory prepped cars used the chrome grill for the scoop, but it's no longer available anyway.

The tunnel ram scoops were not seen on this body style, when it was a competitive racer, since they didn't show up until about '65-'66.

I was told by many here that my scoop is ugly and shouldn't be on the car at all. But I remember the Cal Custom scoop fondly and was really excited when I found mine. I have seen a few pop up on ebay.

I believe offy made a few that bolted outside the scoop and had a different fin, but are basicly the same stlye.

    That's a '62 not a '63. I vote for no scoop.

Believe it or not, i've seen a number of old photo's of early chevy's with the rear of the hood lifted like that.. on purpose...early cowl induction. It would take advantage of the high pressure area at the base of the windshield to draw in air the same way later model's did with cowl hood scoop's..
Not as functional as a scoop with a direct opening in front but i would
