So my new wheels I ordered are the wrong offset and it's causing the vehicle not to clear the fender well. So instead of going through the h***le of buying new rims repainting them and having the tires mounted on them. I was wondering what I can modify for the suspension, or fender well. I'm running a 89 dodge dakota frame with Power steering, and disc brakes. I could go with an air suspension but being unemployed causes my $$$$ to go down.

The rear of the wheels clear fine, the front top doesn't clear at all. I've also realized that when the frame was placed under it, the original springs for the 4cyl dakota weren't replaced with heavy duty ones since the GM 305 I put in it was a bit heavier. :)

Any thoughts on the issue, go a head and toss them out there.

    Thanks

That is part of why on some earlier custom cars with later model frames they opened up the front wheel wells on cars. If you can not afford new rims now sell the ones you have and start over. Check the For Sale, Wanted and vendors sections of this site. Not the first to get rims with wrong offset. Better upgrade springs or you will only have more problems when you drive it.

Wheels are the cheapest answer to this problem 99% of the time. It'd be hard to implemnt any kind of quality suspension change for the hundred bucks it'd cost to sell those rims and replace em with the right ones. Not to mention one is an hour project, and the other could take weeks.

Has anyone used the Wheel Vintiques smoothis on older model cars, such as the 46 chevy stylemasters. I'm sure they have. Just looking for advice on offset. I put a set of them on 15x6 with 3.635 offset. Still trying to understand what I should look for. Just confused.

Measure the interference with what you have and use those backspace/offset numbers as concrete. It doesn't matter what anyone else runs. As the wheel moves back over the hub, be sure that specific rim design will clear the brake calipers and ball joints.
