I just saw this on the G***er group. "Paul and Pam Ballash had their 40 Willys coupe stolen from Springhill Suites on the west side on Knoxville TN last night after the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green KY. The whole rig was taken. Truck - 250 Super Can Ford pickup (burgundy) with Virginia tags. The trailer length is about 26 ft., white, with Virginia Tags on it and also has a golf cart in it. The Willys has an antique Virginia plate that says "Low ET". The Willys is a really bright yellow (with an emblem on the side that says "Low ET" . It is an awesome car. It is steel and has a gl*** hood and front fenders. Please get the word out to as many people as you can. Many thanks. I think it is time to start using transponders and whatever else we can to keep these cars safe from these animals. Barb Hamilton Advey"
Nawww..... Sounds like someone knew what they were doing, this wasnt a tweaker looking for 20 bucks from a pawn shop. I'll put my "GONE" stamp on this one.
sorry to hear that, will put the word out at the track today as im going down their for a job app anyways
some one on here , has a huge opportunity to make something inexpensive to render car, and equipment thieft impossible.. time delay ignition interupt? programmable by the owner? remote controlled..detonation device..heh heh..well you might as well have fun watchin them get sent to hell a bit early..right? really though, on a serious note..Im no electrical guru..but im sure something could be done to keep 30% of these Hot Rod thefts to a minimum. The ones where they hook up and cart off would be a different situation..maybe some type of driveline lock? or covert tracking device that the owner could activate and follow..(because you know jonny law has better things to do).. it just seems that these kinds of thfts could be stopped or at least slowed down.
I'd say that it was probably stolen for the truck/trailer for what it can be used for rather than the Willys as the main target.
not to burst your bubble FredK..but cars with lo-jack get stolen and not recovered everyday..1st the cops have to care (big problem) 2. they have to care enough to use the equipment 3. it has to be close enough to them for the signal to be recieved 4. most pro's disable the lo-jack system with in the first 5 minuets of the car getting stolen. these cars are stolen in their own trailers, or placed in one within blocks of it getting taken..
bttt I am trying to get the VIN info from so I can post it here. It would be appreciated if this thread could be kept current. Thanks Weasel
Holy Cow! I think I saw it today! I was driving back to Cincy from Atlanta early this afternoon, and I stopped at one of the exits in north GA, real close to the Dalton area if not there. This exit had a Ramada Inn on the NW corner of the interchange. Coming from the south I took the exit ramp to go right and into the McDonalds for a quick stop. There is a BP gas station right there on the NE part of the interchange and I was looking at the back end of that car. I didnt stop there but it was right across the road from the light out of McDonalds. The pick up truck hauling it appeared to be black. I cant remember if the thing was being flat-towed or on a low trailer. This would have been about 1:30pm or so. They had pulled in close to the right side of the station and the *** end of the Willys was what I saw directly in front of me. At that point, I was heading back onto I-75. Wish I'd known about this earlier! HOpe someone finds these guys.... Mac VP
Man does that ****! My wife and I saw that Willys at the Thompson G***er drags a couple weeks ago and stopped and talked to the owner and his wife for quite a while. They were really nice people and have a huge amount of $$$ invested in that car, trailer and truck . . . big bucks. I can't stand car thieves . . . should be hung from the nearest tree like horse thieves used to be. It is **** like this that scares the hell out of me --- thinking of what I'll need to do to protect my car when it is complete. *******s . . . I hope they are found. Dale
Just posted this to a few groups and wanted to give an update here: Ok folks a little good news: Two possible sightings (posted on the HAMB) have been p***ed on to law enforcement. One was of the rig, one of the car-separate sightings and locations Paul just called me and said he got a call from Knoxville P.D. They have recovered the truck. It was found...running...right in Knoxville on Rt. 40 East near Midway road. Lock appeared to have been popped out. No trailer or Willys, but it's something. Please p*** this on to any other groups you were updating. Also Paul wanted me to relay to everyone his gra***ude for all the help and extra sets of eyes out there. -SH
good news on the truck , a bright yellow Willys is going to be hard to hide , so hopefully its next to be found
I just hope they track these A HOLES down and find there stash of stolen Hot rods.. and the willys get returned to the owner. this is friggin NUTS..
Big post on this earlier. Here's the link. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272626
Here is an old thread with a possible 2014 solution. Just saw a small device called "tile" which may help us all AND let us help each other. Google tile and check it out. Put one on anything you don't want to lose and you join a group of people who help locate each "lost" tile. Just learned about these today. These could really be a BIG help protecting our rides.
Well I'll just whip right on over there and put one on that stolen Willys. Then we'll be able to find it for damned sure.
The Willys was never found. Paul purchased a all steel coupe and it has been built for a few years now.
