$25,000 for a period hot rod might be low balling in todays market. I hope they find the guys who took it. if not I hope it's insured for more than 25, because it would take more than that to replace it.

are there any unusual parts or pieces for us to be on the lookout for online and/or during swap meets that might lead back to the culprits? even if it get's stripped all the pieces end up somewhere

There's an event at Carlisle this weekend that I will be attending...its an All GM show so it's unlikely any parts could wind up there but you never know... I'll definitely keep an eye out just the same.

hey everyone. it's shaelyn - the "other half".
i wanted to let everyone know that we SO much appreciate the urgency and attention that you all are giving our misfortune. it really means a lot to dave and i. i remember the first time he showed me the car and took me for a spin - i giggled like a schoolgirl. so sad to know it's not in its rightful owner's hands - being dave. just makes me sick. he and i managed to sleep for the first time last night in days. not well, but we're doing the best we can. yes it's a car - but with my art background and such, it really feels like dave's greatest work has been taken from him. i know he's really working hard to keep a stiff upper lip, and we're hopeful for the roadster's return.

i wanted to provide a partial list of equipment, since it's been requested a couple times. any and all eyes are SO appreciated. also, if philly don and delaware charlie (w/ '40s ford pu) are in here, please drop us a line via email... in need of your addresses (selliswalter@gmail.com). best everyone.....

34 ford straight cut trans(3pd top shifter)
    56 f100 steering box
Dodge PU front shock mounts w/ koni airplane shocks
    40-48 Ford brakes
    41 Ford 16" wheels w/ Firestone WW's and 41 Ford hubcaps
    Custom made nerf bumpers

    Engine:
    53 Merc from Ford truck

still sitting and waiting. there's a LOT of people with their eyes peeled and ears to the ground, i've learned. y'all are the best! and it goes without saying (though i'm saying it), that if this ever would happen to anyone - GOD FORBID... wouldn't wish it on ANYONE - we would definitely do the same. if the car should surface, and we are blessed with it's return - GPS, people!!! it's going in all the cars as soon as we can. i don't think we could endure this a second time - it's been very trying and we are so exhausted.

    thanx again, everyone.

Anyone got friends that work on the docks, just in case someone tries to ship it overseas?

In Detroit, there's a LOT of guys sending used cars to Eastern Europe or the Middle East. Titles mean little there, so scrap cars get rebuilt & resold easily.

    Hope someone finds it soon.

This company has an inexpensive service that may meet most needs. I'm going to bring this up to my Father as he has a Pebble Beach winning Auburn Boattail and is closing in on the completion of his restoration of a L29 Cord.

I would hide the device in the most importent vehicle. The truck and trailer are dime a dozen usually and insurence will get you a similar replacement. Getting back the car you poured your heart, soul and blood into, is another story.

Since the car is the real target, even if they dump the truck/trailer you can still track the car. Plus who would think to check it over for a locator device? They probably would, but if you hide it well enough you could be okey.

I think a two pronged approach would be effective. First an alarm system that pages you. Make it audible if you want to try to scare them away or silent if you want to assess the situation and possibly deploy some personal first hand, don't need the police involved, kind of justice (severe, oak axe handle, beaten to the last moment of your life kind of stuff...you may want a gun as I'd bet they are armed...). Second a GPS tracking option in case they get away before you can arrive "on scene". That way someone can track while you chase.

This one also uses satelite. More expensive I'm sure. But it's all about how much you want to spend to track what's yours.

Besides just watching the streets and swap meets, I suggest every hamber to take a look at their local craigslist once a day in the auto parts section to see if these parts pop up. There is to many craiglist cties for the owner to track but if each Hamber helps out we could cover alot more territory. That is how we found my buddies truck that was stolen. Guy was selling to many parts that would fit his truck, so we had his girlfriend call to buy a part that he knew he could identify to be positively his and that also gave us and the cops an address. They said they couldn't go chasing after every Craigslist adds out there, that they were busy but if we had proof they would, so we did it that way( it was a late model common truck that is popular for stripping). That person is facing multiple thief charges now. He had other trucks and parts there that he stoled off of lots.

My buddy has him on tape but he was real good at it. You see him walk right in off the street but he is wearing a sweatshirt with a hoadie so you can't get no good description. Must have been dropped off down the street. Walks straight to that truck unlocks the door and starts it within seconds and he's gone.

I sure hope it is found intact sitting in someones garage
