    Plse tell me if I’m on the right track here plse;

    Engine is a 1990 Ford 5.0L with SD-EFI which I believe wants 30 to 45 PSI
    Fuel tank is an 84 full sized GM van with non-in tank sender
    <O:p</O:p

    I want to run an in-line electric fuel pump. Not an in-tank model.
    <O:p</O:p

    I’m looking at the following fuel pumps –all have 3/8 hose barb inlets and outlets unless otherwise noted;
    <O:p</O:p

    Accel # ACC-75701 (Summit price $249.95)
    43 GPH @ 60 PSI
    <O:p</O:p

    Accel # ACC-74701 (Summit price $174.95)
    43 Gph @ 45 PSI
    <O:p</O:p

    MSD Ignition # MSD-2225 (Summit price $94.70)
    43 GPH @ 85 PSI
    Inlet 3/8, Outlet 5/16 - both are hose barb

    Summit # SUM-G3138 (Summit price $79.95)
    Other than both in and out being 5/16 hose barb, appears
    to be the MSD unit
    <O:p</O:p

    Holley # 12-290 (Summit price #165.95)
    67 GPH @ 100 PSI
    <O:p</O:p

    BTW – Engine puts out 250 to 275 HP max.
    <O:p</O:p
    Is there any of the above that I should not use and why?
    <O:p</O:p
    Do I need to run a fuel pressure regulator as well?

    Thanks.<O:p</O:p

    If you're only making 275 hp you should only need between 20-25 gal/hr of fuel. To ensure you have enough capacity, any pump that can push 40 gal/hr should be enough. 3/8 fuel line will be plenty. Just to be safe, use the same size for the return.

    HP/BSFC (usually between .4 and .5 for normally aspirated engines) = lbs per hour of fuel. Divide that by 6.5 lbs/gallon to get GPH estimates.

    Most of those you have listed are likely repackaged Bosch pumps. You could buy a generic one through a parts store for less $$ I'm thinking. And yes, you will need a regulator, but the OEM one on the Ford fuel rail should be fine.

    Guys,

    Thanks very much for the responses and the information.

    I appreciate your help.

    :)

  8. NAPA makes a good generic external pump. I'm using one on my EFI 5.0. I can look up the part number tomorrow, but the NAPA guy seemed to know what I needed when I went looking. Must be a common EFI application.
