I've only been to San Diego and me and the misses are gettin hitched in august. We'll be in L.A. this time out there. I get a day of anything and everything car stuff so I'd like to hit a bunch of stuff. I wanna hit So Cal Speed Shop for sure. Even things not automotive, what should we check out? Restuarants? Pubs etc?? Thanks guys!
Well you have to hit Socal Pamona. Socal L.A. IS NO MORE. So unless you want to be the only one there, go to the pamona shop. Also, there are shops like... THE EARLY FORD STORE (SAN DEMAS) www.Earlyfordstore.com CW MOSS ( OLD TOWN ORANGE ) www.CWMOSS.com REIDS ROD PARTS ( OLD TOWN ORANGE ) www.reidsrodparts.com THE NHRA MUSEUM (PAMONA) THE PETERSON MUSEUM (L.A.) John Forces (Yorba Linda I think), Moon Eyes (Santa Fe Springs) www.mooneyesusa.com
If you're gonna be there for Labor Day weekend....the last weekend .... there is a big car show at the Orange county Fairgrounds. Orange County Cruisin' Assoc. Great Labor Day Cruise.
There's something going on in "Mighty So Cal" every minute of the day. For food and Drink (retro style), Musso and Frank, 6667 Hollywood Blvd. (six to ten blocks west of Vine), has been there since dirt. The last celeb I saw there was Sheree North (I only remember her from my boyhood, reading dirty mags). Fortunately the mags I read, in those days, were pretty wrinkled up, so I immediately recognized her. There's a Daily Grill in Burbank (near the airport), Studio City (corner of Ventura and Laurel Canyon) and in Brentwood. And, Gladstone's For Fish, 17300 Pacific Coast Highway. right on the water in Pacific Palisades. If you're going out to the SoCal Speedshop on the 210 Freeway, get off at BuenaVista, in Duarte, go up to Foothill Blvd. Turn right, go several miles east, 'til your just about out of town. On the right (I don't have the address on hand) is the Justice Brothers Offices (they don't have a big sign; but, if you leave town, on the bridge over the dry wash, you just passed it). You go down the steps to the front door, which is locked. Press the button. A voice will ask you, "Whadya want?". Tell them you want to see the display. The buzzer will sound, and you're in. If you're lucky, Ed Justice, Sr. will be in there. His escorted tour of a neat collection of cars of all types, is priceless. If you're in San Fernando Valley, there's the Nethercutt Collection up in Sylmar. They have a website. You can make a reservation for a tour of the Grand Salon. The gigantic collection across the street is open without reservation (it's all free). Also in "The Valley", there's Autobooks. One block east of Hollywood and Magnolia (on the south side of Magnolia). Jay Leno shows up there, to browse with the rest of us, almost daily. Let us kinow if you run out of things to see or do.
Well, its not car related, but its cool regardless and your lady might like it. It may very well bring back memories. My Dad is part of a franchise of candy stores, and they carry everything from Snickers to Abba Zabba, gelato and British candy. All the candy you thought you couldn't get any more, they have. Its called Powell's Sweet Shoppe, and he was just down there last week for a grand opening of on in La Hoya (sp?) which I understand is right outside of San Diego. Might be fun to check out. I'm not a So Cal native, so I have no idea what else is down there. Or maybe some go karts racing? http://miramarspeedcircuit.com/

alright guys and gals...had a blast. Just got back to Mil-town tonight. SoCal delivered....the speed shop tour in Pomona was great. Hot as hell out there yesterday. The belly tank car was there and apart. Very cool. Also a car that a guy spent 12 years building in his garage that SoCal is finishing for him. Super cool. Bob's Big Boy was awesome. Ate a burger out there Tuesday and hit the cruise in last night. Lots of nice rides, anyone from The Hamb out there last night? Cool bikes too. What is up with the VW-powered trikes that rolled through?? Must be a cali thing hey....Hit the NHRA museum also when in Pomona. Really nice display. Santa Monica is gorgeous....the wife and I had a great time overall. We couldn't see everything we wanted to. Just ran out of time. Saw Pinks too btw....wanted to eat a dog there but we couldn't get over there when they weren't super crowded. OH and got a friggin $50 parking ticket on W. Pico blvd..... ran in to pick up mexican food and came out to a ticket. Lame. Overall had a bitchin time. Thanks for the suggestions. We hope to get back out there soon. OH and make sure to avoid the Hollywood Bowl-Hollywood Blvd exit off the 101 at all costs when they have a concert. We sat on the offramp for 1.5 hours last night
