Electrical question of the day

I am putting a used HEI distributor in my 56 Chevy truck with a 1979 305 SBC motor. The distributor has three wires coming out of the side. The wires are brown, black and pink. Can someone tell me what the brown, black and pink wires connect to by color/component. Thanks Specs

i have an HEI, i have 3 wires coming out the side near the base, and plugging in up near the top.all on a 3 pin plug..... ie - from the base, into the cap... it should only need 1 wire to connect to the dizzy cap, which will be the 'run' wire (or a good 12v when the car is running). then it shall work.. i have a newer one, but i am pretty sure I am not wrong.
