You guys are doing math based on ONE vehicle...these long haulers are carting 6, 8, 10 at a time... They don't expect each indivdual owner to cover the entire tab....it gets spread over the number of cars...basically.

That's absolutely true, but at 2368 miles to Ramona, it's still going to run between $1200-$1500 at best. They may qoute less but once they add a fuel surcharge and non-op charges it'll even out.

Yeah, I never liked Gullwings either. Indy's are good quality. I had Trackers for a while because they were lighter due to the plastic base. I kinda found out the hard way "lighter" doesn't always mean "better" as far as truck base plates go.

  4. What the **** are you guys talkin about???:confused:...I still have my Hobie skateboard with brick wheels..........:D:D.......then again last time I rode it was 1972

Does the truck move at all? I mean enough to drive it on a trailer? I know most haulers charge an extra $150-$200 for a non-runner. Maybe if it moves enough to get on a trailer you will have more cost-efficient options. mike

I know we're all hillbillies out here in Ohio, but c'mon man, you wouldn't trust a garage full of Hambers to pull a smallblock and install a th350?

What jonny o said. I know if you hold your tongue just right, you can pert near get anything done.

I just gave a TH350 away to fellow HAMBer. He's having it relayed to his place tonight. Could have been a practice run AND I'm sure it would have been cheaper than whatever tow + repair in CA is gonna cost ya.

Warning, I don't skate. Never have. Can't stand up on my own without ground under me. Have trouble with stairs just walking.

why didn't Lance just rent a trailer in Ohio? Even if one of the Vans didn't already have a hitch, installing one and renting a trailer seems like it would have been cheaper then shipping it?

I'll have to check to see if it is short or long tail. I don't personally know the difference because I've never messed with them. I prefer 3 pedals!

That is an excellent question, and I'll make sure to ask him next time I talk to him. Unfortunately, the truck broke down over the weekend, and we didn't hear about it until Monday morning, and they were long gone by then.

@Mike B: I think the truck is movable, barely, but we won't be surprised if we get hit with the extra fee, and yeah, that ****s.

@JonnyO: I would trust a garage full of HAMBers if it was my car, and I would be out there with ya to get it done, but we've gotta answer to the higher ups who are writing the checks. The fact is, the airbags are ****ed up too, and if the company paid to fly somebody out to get the truck fixed and drive it home, and it broke down again, it wouldn't be good. A lot of people were already skeptical about trying to drive the truck the whole 8,000 miles to begin with, and now are giving the "I told you so" smirk...

Nice looking truck. Hope it's secured. I sure as hell wouldn't want it just sitting around waiting for repairs or transportation home. Too many hotrods are being liberated from their owners lately.

Trans swap couldn't take much more than 6 hours and I'd trust 99% of the HAMBer's to do it right.:D

Even a quality rebuilt 350 will be cheaper than shipping. If the trans is good enough to get it up the trailer you'd be ok, but if don't run they usually charge extra to load 'em. I would bet the cost of hauling has more than doubled in the last six months, especially in light of the cost of gas and diesel.

how extensive of a diagnosis has the truck gotten at this point?

I mean...has a tech looked at it, or are You getting "Dude...I think the transmission is messed up."

The reason I ask is ...It might not need an overhaul. You could be talking about a loose shifter linkage combined with a hole in an air line. If that's the case, driving it home would for sure be easier than shipping it...or perhaps it could catch the tour?

Sounds like the solution has some corporate baggage attached to it. Although there are a lot of people on here that are all more than capable and willing to help you it sounds like your best bet (keeping the suits happy) is to call one of the major specialty auto shippers and git er done. The cost of this will be about 10% of what their cost of a booth at ASR is costing them!!!
Will it be at ASR in San Diego??

You nailed it, definitely some baggage riding with this one, I'd have a hard time explaining to non car people why they should pay for me to fly out to fix the ****** and the airbags, and drive it to California hoping something else doesn't happen. And yeah, it'll be at at ASR in all its glory

  25. Thanks for the plug meatball:)
Unfortunately I have no plans to go to California right now.
I do have room from Denver, CO east along I-70 all the way back to Dayton. OH.
I leave on Tuesday, the best way to get ahold of me is to call 937-671-5537.

I don't know how you can call the number one truck for 30 years trendy. Where are your Gullwings now?

And did I read this right; "Yeah, but for some reason they make us do these things called budgets, and then have the nerve to try and make us stick to 'em. Ha, good thing they didn't know about hot rods when they signed off on the check, we went over budget on the truck in no time, and the hits just keep on coming! Now go buy some new stage 10's so we can afford a new ******!"

    Stage 10s? <!-- / message -->
