I'm putting together a frame for my current project, and I want it to have a certian 'look' to it. Where do I find some old type hot-set rivets? The ones I'm looking for have a flat head (though I could live with round head), and are 5/16th diamater and 7/8" long. I need about dozen.
Aircraft Spruce and Specialty or Wicks Aircraft supply are two good mail order houses that have everything aviation ( and many things good for cars)
You also might want to check out http://www.bigflatsrivet.com/. They should have what you need. I just recently ordered from them and had a good experience.
C&J fastener in Livonia has any type you will ever need in any material. C & J FASTENER INC. 13400 STARK RD. LIVONIA, Michigan 48150. TEL: (734) 513-6750. or http://www.rivetsinstock.com/
take 5/16 steel rod and with heat and hammer make some thats the way blacksmiths been doing it for hundreds of years
Why do you think you don't see handmade nails anymore? LMAO Yeah if he wanted to do about 150-200 of them to get 12 that somewhat match and look good, that's the way to go. Or he could make a rivet heading tool, and learn to use it to get consistant looking rivets. Either way he's going to have say somewhere near 10-20 hours into it. lol I've made 1000's of rivets over the years and I can honestly say C & J or any other distributor is the way to go if you want a consistant, polished look.
