Wanting to use a 4sp auto in my '28 sedan, getting real confused on which one is best to use the 700r4 or the 4L60? Also is there a good site to help id the two?
Personally if it's a small bock, i would use the 200-4r. It's much smaller and lighter. They had a bad rep for a while as people didn't understand how to properly build them but now they can be built to handle all the horsepower you can throw at them. I have used M P H Transmissions for 200's in Santa Ana CA (714) 497-6581 with good luck.
700r4 and an l460e are basicly the same thing the only difference AFAIK is the l460e is electronicly controlled (need computer) 2x on the 200r4.
2004R.......smaller, better shift points. But if it is between a 700r4 or 40L60E than the 700 unless you want to run a computer.
I don't think he is asking about a 4L60E, his original post says 4L60. It is my understanding that the 4L60 is a 700R4 (possibly with some minor updates). My donor car (93 Firebird) came with a 4L60 and that is what I will be running (computer only controlled the lock-up).
