My family and I travel quite a bit to different events but we are looking for local clubs or get togethers for the to-do list. Please don't bother posting info on ricer hangouts or streetmachine cruise-ins clogged with lawnchairs. KarbKings is one of the prominent ones near me so if you have proper contact info please pm me. If there isn't regular things going on I'm up for creating some. Let me know.
There are quite a few clubs and things going on in your area (Carroll, Howard, Baltimore Counties) and southern PA. But if you just want to hang with traditional rods and customs, you will be limiting your travels. Most clubs and events are a combination of different cars, rods, customs, muscle cars, etc. It's there way of building membership, participation and money. There are quite a few members here who live in those areas, especially PA, try PMing some and see where they hang out.
Mopar34 brings up a good point. Most cruise nights are going to attract a cross section of the automotive interest groups ( It's hard to keep the occasional ricer away). The Karb Kings have their annual event (Mobtown Greaseball) in I believe Sept. and the Jalopyrama put on by the Rusty Nuts is in Nov. in Glen Burnie. Keep checking the internet and this board for other upcoming traditionally flavored functions. I know it's a right good hike to Burtonsville from Westminster, but they get a pretty good crowd on nice Sun mornings at the Dunkin Donuts parking lot at Rt197 and Rt29 still, as far as I know (haven't been up there in a while). Some traditional stuff shows up as well as a lot of other interesting cars...Don.
Didn't intend to isolate it to strictly traditionals. I own a big variety of vehicles and a fan of plenty from drag cars to scooters. "I" like vintage vehicles. Doesn't mean I'm down on someone who drives something OT. I just don't like being the one tattooed guy with a loud (other than stereo) car in a sea of trailered cars.
Abit south of you but if your ever down in Lusby-Solomon's Island area look us up. Some decent cruise in's and if not we are always hangin' out together. Fitysix BTW That is the Kropdusters Md. Chapter
There is a rather large cruisein at the valley mall in Hagerstown, MD every other weekend. Here are the dates. www.carshowlink.com has many shows and cruiseins listed for PA, MD and WV. The Lost in the Fifties club out of the Glen Burnie area have quite a few customs in their club and at their meets. I haven't been for a while so I can't speak for Trad rods. They used to meet every Saturday night at Bennigan's at the Center at Glen Burnie Mall from 6 pm to 10pm. Not real close to you, but might be worth the run, unless you got a car like mine that only gets 6 mpg. There is also the Astro's Car club that meet at the Home Depot in Eldersburg every 2nd and 4th Sat from 6pm. If you are up for a little drive, on the 4th Friday of every month the Motor Menders Rod and Custom Club of York PA hold a cruise in at the Amish Markets in Shrewsbury PA. If the weather is good, there should be about 700 - 800 cars there. A blend of everything from traditional to newer cars, but mostly rods and customs. The next one is June 27. They start at 5 Pm but you had better be there by 3pm for prime parking, gr*** parking still available later. They charge $1 to pay for security, other than that there is no registration fees. The Motor Menders also have a cruise in York every 2nd Saturday of the month. Hemmings.com also has a listing of events in various states by month. At most of the events you will be given flyers for other upcoming events, maybe even some that may interest you. My former car club has a quite a few members in the Westminster area and do several events there each year. Nice bunch of people, but they are mostly 50's customs and a few streetrods.
rc, I forgot about the Jimmy Cone cruise nights in Mt.Airy every 1st and 3rd Sat nights. That's relatively close to you and used to draw a big crowd on a nice night. (Haven't been up there in a while either). An added bonus, especially for the kids, ICE CREAM....Don.
Jimmie Cone is tommorrow night. 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. Hell, you're only 15 minutes down the road. If its nice like it is today then they'll be pretty damn packed. Occasionally it gets so crowded that people are forced to double and triple park. Its a big parking lot too. They're also having a benefit show on July 5th so there will be more cars than usual. Saturdays at Valley Mall in Hagerstown are always packed.
On the Eastern Shore checkout www.wheelsthatheal.com and www.isurfthewave.com, click on cruisin' weekends. Listen live Thursday mornings at 8:20 on www.isurfthewave.com.
rc, A lot of the local fire depts put on shows for fund raising, etc. I was up to a little show last weekend in Boring,Md.just Northwest of Reisterstown. Tomorrow, weather permitting, the Winfield F.D.has a show.( just West of Eldersburg) and I believe the Gamber,Md. VFD has at least one show I believe in August. All of these are reasonably close to you. The more traditional stuff shows up, the better.....Don
Id like to see something going on in Cecil or Harford County MD. Even if its only a couple HAMBers at someone's house Id be there.
I second what Chicken Scratch said. Hell, if Carroll County isn't too far a hike for any of ya I say come on. I can have my barbeque ready in a snap with kegs to boot. Pretty much anywhere around the Baltimore area is cool with me. For events and such I don't mind traveling at all but mainly looking for some type of regular get togethers within an hour or so of me.
The cruise in Glen Burnie put on by Lost in the 50's has moved down the road a bit. It's still on Ritchie Highway but is now at Marley Station Mall. Still on Sat. nights. It's a mix of stuff, but pre-75(?). They changed the cut off recently. But there are a bunch of great cars including some traditional rods and customs. November 1st is Jalopyrama, this will be our fifth year. If you haven't been yet you gotta go. Our show is all pre-62, inside cars are all hand picked. There's been coverage in Rolls and Pleats #29 and Rodder's Journal #39. (sorry but have to promote the show a bit ) See below for more info.
