Having lost my father in law to an on track accident & knowing Scott & the Kalitta family this is another truly tragic loss. My sincere condolences.
God, it looked like he hit not only a wall, but a man lift at the end of the track. If you watch the video closely, it looks like there was a cameraman in the lift up to the upper left of the screen and you can see the whole lift jump and shake and the guy moving around. Am I seeing things??? This does not make sense to have right at the end of the track... Sorry to hear about this lost. Prayers to family and friends...
I record all the ESPN racing and I can't believe what my wife and I just saw ! That was the worst crash I have ever seen ! That really sucks the big one . That is a hugh loss to the racing community . We will all never forget Scott and now he is in Racing Heaven !! Scott was taken in what he loved to do . Our prayers go out to Scott's family . God Bless the Kalitta Family !
That sux! R.I.P. Scott, you will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Connie and their family.
If i remember correctly, Englishtown has a public road at the bottom end of the track. The track is as long it can possibly be. The truth is, the speed of the cars today is much greater then the majority of the seasoned tracks are equipped for.
That video makes me angry. If you have a run away car and go through the sand trap too fast you hit a concrete barrier? That is just fucked. Buy more real estate. NHRA can afford it. Time for some rule changes. You just wonder who is next? Just my opinion but the tracks need to get safer, the engines and amount of nitro should be looked at and chassis and gear ratio are next.Everytime you watch a race you wonder who is going to get hurt next. I met Scott and Connie many times ,my prayers are with you.I am just a race fan.Kalitta racing was always my favorite.
A terrible loss to the entire drag racing world and his family. I lost a buddy today. I started working as a crew guy on Scotts dragster when Dicko was still tuning it. Also worked on Connie and Dougs cars too. The best racing years I had were the many I spent working for Kalitta Motorsports. Great family. Scott was an icon and a fierce competitor. I cannot even describe the suck pill I swallowed today. My prayers go out to his family and all our friends. Godspeed. He will be missed. G-Man
I am really surprised they showed the video yesterday when I turned it on to watch qualifying. God Speed!

I never get used to hearing this kind of news. I always liked Scott Kalitta as a driver. I feel like I've been grabbed and shaken... RIP Scott - you will be missed.
That is just terrible . . . the Kalitta family has been into racing for many decades. RIP Scott - any my heartfelt condolences to the Kalitta family and all of racing . . .
