When I woke up this morning I had no clue I would be buying a 1941 Master Deluxe Chevy 2-door sedan today. I decided to go to a farm machinery auction today and there at the end of a line of tractors sat a 41 Chevy that looked pretty good. I got in it and it had brakes and I thought to myself that it looked like it would run and drive. So I waited for hours to see it sell. They had it sitting there running as the bidding started on it and it sounded pretty good. The auctioneer claimed it belonged to some old dude that had owned it for years and it looked to be in great shape for it's age. A friend of mine was standing beside me and he nudged me and told me that I should buy that car so I bid on it. after I bid a couple of more times on it I was the proud owner of a 1941 Chevy. The thing runs and drives great! The brakes pull a little to the left but that seemed to get better as I drove it around. I drove it all over Stuart for over an hour with my son, we were having a blast. Then I drove it home, picked up my wife and daughter and we headed into Greenfield for ice cream. We pulled into the Tiger Drive Inn behind a Studebaker Hawk and a Cherry Studebaker pickup where we had a lot of fun chatting it up with the owners of the Studebakers. We just got home from town and I have already had a boatload of fun with the 41. We stopped at several friend's houses to show them the car and they all went ape over it. One friend of ours said he could make room in his garage for it and the thing that surprised him was that his wife told him that she would not mind if he brought home an old car that looked like that one. I'm glad I bought it.
I think most folks on here have better halves who would let them bring that home. Looks like a winner.
This gal thinks my wife has so much patience since I am always dragging some basket case home, my wife calls them life-sized model cars. She is glad that this one actually run home under it's own power and we drove it around for hours.
There is a winner. thinking about it i have brought home 7 projects and got 4 of them running. two and a half run now. lol. real nice find though.
Old timers say the '41 was the best Chevrolet built, up to that date ... most made it thru the war with no problem. Let's get some dual pipes on there ! Vacuum shift still there ?
Nice score! There's a fellow in town who has a '41 Pontiac 4-door for sale for $3400 that looks to be in about the same shape. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need it. LOL
My first rod was a 1940 Chevy Coupe. Used to get mad, because you could find aftermarket stuff for 1920s-1939 and 1941 up, but nothing for a 1940. After eight years of fabricating and fussing, it was on the road and two years later they started making all the stuff I had fabricated. One day a guy came up and told me that he wanted to buy it. I told him that she wasn't sale and he didn't have enough money to change that. I was wrong. I miss the old girl, but the Willys in the garage is starting to take shape.
Look for a 1/2" vacuum tube leading to the trans ... if it's still attached to a cylinder the size of a tomato juice can hooked to the trans, it's there - otherwise, it'll have a single long shift arm conversion. Most cars had trouble with the vacuum shift due to neglect & wear.
