well not quite hell but 112* starts to feel pretty warm after awhile, anyways here's a few pictures from the lake today
Awesome pics!! The shot of the modified with the pilot chute just out is very cool. Thanks for posting.
sorry not trying to high jack, but the north american eagle (land speed jet) will be trying to do a test run on tuesday. then on wensday will bee trying to do an afterburrner short p***.
Going to the July meet, should cool down by then????????? How was the wind? That more bothersome than the heat.
The wind was more of a bummer than the heat. I was all suited up and strapped in and sat on the line for 30 minutes waiting to run before the SCTA shut down the meet. It was sorta like being real thirsty and only getting to look at a gl*** of water. But on a positive note...I did get to run earlier (the black roadster in the first picture of this thread.) Whata blast! -Keven
I didn't notice the heat. Maybe it was because we set a new C/GStreamliner record of 229. Yeah. That was prolly why. Wayno
I'm going to observe at July 20 meet, from all the comments, best I bring "Mucho Agua" & VHS camera!-------------Don
Sorry guys, 112 degrees was not hell. THIS was HELL. May 20, 1962, the day I got bit by a 53 stutebaker. Aproaching the traps around 150, a huge gust of wind took it airborne. 9 endos later the car looked like this, and I had 3 fractured vertabrae. Spend your 17th summer in a cast from your neck to your nuts, and you'll know hell. That I only have a partially numb right leg makes me feel like the luckiest SOB on earth. El Mirage is hallowed ground. It must be respected. That they shut the meet down for wind last weekend, may have saved someone's life.
Oh my... I was bummed that the wind came up ... I'm GLAD they called it off ... Safety is ALWAYS first! Dean- you are one lucky dude. Keven
the wind was going pretty strong all day, was kinda surprised it took that long to call the event. down by the finish line the ballons started bouncing off the ground at about 9:30 dean that doesn't look like fun at all, i've had my share of minor car and bike incedents but luckily nothing that bad. it is pretty damn cool that you were out there at 17 running that car though. the hell thing was kinda funny all weekend long all i heard was "man, it's hot as hell" really it wasn't that bad out there, it felt much warmer during the week working in el cajon when it was 108 but 5 times the humidity of el mirage. it was actually a good event with a few pretty serious records set, think there were 2 or 3 in the 2 club. oh yeah congrats on the record wayno, the only guy who moves closer to bonneville then drives to el mirage 5 times a year from utah. how's your tank coming?
Justin, the Tanks coming along. This last 2 months has been kinda funny since I drove a stock Model T from Baltimore to Albuquerque and attended the Antique Nats, LA Roadster Show and El Mirage. I'll be back on it with a vengeance this week. Oh, and there are 6 meets at El Mirage (grin). Wayno
