Ouch!!!! But I think I deserve it  But If that is a chalange, I could probably scare up enough parts to put an engine together this week.
Can you finish yours? LOL :D:D:D

    Hey Scooter,

    Great project!
On the subject of your quarter panel fab: You're on the right track
with makin' an accurate buck to follow. I'd probably build those two
panels in two pieces, splitting the quarter about where the front half
just starts to change shape towards the rear. This would give the
advantage of making the panel alittle easier to handle, and since
most of the shape is in the rear, easier to shrink the lower, while
stretching the upper. I'm guessin' you could pull most of the shape
into these two panels with a shrinker/stretcher, and refine the crown
on the wheel. Once the two panels are welded together, I wouldn't
suggest you run the panel through the wheel, unless those are gas
welded beads. A mig weld bead is very hard, and would probably put
paid to the anvils on your e wheel.

  14. I really believe, your car is going to be, one of those significant Hot Rods, kids are going to talk about in 50 years.

The door handle with the key on the p*** side may not be a big deal. I changed mine to the drivers side by using parts from a right hand drive car. I did not put handles with keys on both sides but have since found out that many of the repop handles use the same key, so getting 2 with the same key is not so hard. The bad part of that is that your door key will fit every 5th or 6th Model A that you see.

I have read all of the stuff that I can find on your car, but do not see any mention on paint. What are your plans there?
    Thanks Dynaflash

Lookin' good Scooter! Your progress pics impress me everytime. When I finish my '32, I'll have to take it out to HB, so you can make me regret building a flathead powered car :p

HA! Believe me... this Hemi is going to be a dog with that low compression and no boost. :D Hope that 32 is goin' good! I'm sure I'll be back in Vegas soon! I'll definitely stop by the shop and see the progress!!!

That's great info! THANKS!! I'll look into it a little closer. Biggest thing is retaining these handles with this shape. I'm going to try and leave as much original stuff as possible.

The paint will be "Dark Sea Blue". It's a Fed. Stock color. Early war. Used on quite a few Navy issue planes like the F4U Corsairs, Hellcats, etc.. Really close to a midnight blue. Darker than a Midnight Blue.

EXACTLY! I absolutely agree. That's the direction I've been thinking of going also. The side part has a very small amount of crown and then the rear section has heavy curve in both directions.

WOW!!! Chris! You're makin' me blush man!! I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about this car!!

I know this whole build isn't everyone's taste and I'm doing the best I can to not make it look like I actually cut up a sedan and made some abortion of a hot rod out of it. I know being different has it's limits. I've really been trying to keep this looking as if it were trully something that came from the Ford factory and was then modified for use in a modified catagory of racing in the late 50's early 60's.

Seriously guys... thanks for all the nice words!

One of my favorite HAMB builds! Thanks for the update, black HEMI looks great! Have you given any thought to using a early 1950's hood as a doner for the rear quarter sections you plan to make? That missing section just reminds me of a 49-52 Chevy hood for some reason.

Yes! That had crossed my mind several times. It has become a back up plan if I run out of time and/or can't get the shape right. I'm really trying to use this as a learning experience to shape some metal and understand how an e-wheel is used. It's a tool I would like to own someday. I've only got a taste so far, but can see it will turn into quite a dirty addiction!:rolleyes::D

There is a 49-52 hood out in the yard, I'll post some photos tomorrow. Easy to pre cut and fit in abox to DHL out to you.

Question for you. When you made the wire bucks, how did you figure out the right curve for the rods? Was there a method or did you just "eyeball" it?

I've got a section (thankfully alot smaller) cut out of the lower corner of my truck cab and that looks like a good way to fix it.

I used my good 'ol eyeballs, bent one side then made a piece exactly the same shape and transposed it to the other side. Just kept going back and forth until I had the vert. pieces then went back and did the horizontal stringers.

So the new plan is to use the hood that The37kid has. That will cover the rear most corner and then we'll make the filler pieces for the rest. So, including the patch panels, the rear corners and the pieces we will make it will be 3-pieces to fill in the entire wheel well with all the appropriate compound curves. Could do it in two with this plan also, but the lower patch panels make a good guide and has the correct bead shape. The bead will have to be added to the rest of the panels. That might be a little tricky. We'll see. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...

    Hey Scooter,
When adding the bead to whatever route, be it the hood panel, or
a fabbed one, you'll probably have to pre-stretch the bead/swage
in the area of greatest crown and shape. If ya don't, the bead will
probably not be uniform in shape, and may 'steal' metal from above
the bead/swage, making the upper panel a wavy mess. Idea #3
says you could make the bead from a third, smaller piece, and weld
it in after the upper panels are formed.

YES! Jeesh! Did you read my mind or WHAT!!??:eek::) I definitely had thought about that as well.

Getting excited for this part of the build! It will look more like a car when the panels are done. It's driving me crazy with the cutouts there!!
