The recent threads on stolen rods got me thinking about something that happened last week. I was at our little small town hospital visiting my Mother. I had driven the Stude, it was the middle of the day and it was parked right in plain view of the front doors with no other cars around it. At the time there was no gl*** in one door so it wasn't locked, that has since been taken care of. When I came out two guys in a van were driving slowly past it looking it over which isn't that unusual, however when they saw me walking straight toward they turned away and picked up their speed noticably. Never saw them before and haven't seen them since. It's just an old beater BUT it is also easy prey. Now maybe they were just admirers but the way they reacted when they saw me makes me have 2nd thoughts. Maybe it's time to consider some added security..........
how about a hot-seat with a hidden disarm switch. let the ****er get in and crank it...bet he won't be back. make sure you're seats are luquid repellent though i've actually been thinking about all this for my model a lately because it's going to be a daily driver. not too concerned about door locks or anything like that since i won't have a stereo or any other frills like that. i also don't want just a regular ole keyed ignition switch that just anybody can pick. i'll be hiding the electronics in the gas tank so they won't be accessible without removing the hidden cover i'll be making for it all. anybody got any ideas for alternative ignition switches that are difficult to byp***? i have a few ideas already that i won't give away yet but i can always use other input.
you could always just put your blowup doll in the front seat when you have exited the vehicle! this **** ****s , im gonna rig up some kind of kill switch and maybe spend the cash on a lojack..
theft is always a problem even for vehicles that dont run. try and enjoy your ride and secure it the best you can.
How about a kill switch or spring-loaded,cable/spring-actuated door pins that hold the door shut til you open them. We have to be vigilant as times become more difficult....
You're probably right on the paranoia part, there are far more valuable cars around here than mine, it just seemed odd because most people smile and wave or nod or stop to ask about it. I think I'll rig up a hidden kill switch so they at least can't just drive off with it.
Hey I came out of the hardware store a while back and found 3 old geezers around my car. One sitting in the driver's seat and the other 2 with the hood up looking at the engine! They said they were trying to decide if my car was a fancy Ford or a Hudson. One asked if the AC was stock. Duh!
I would slow down to check out a street-parked old car. And once I drove past the car I'd probably speed back up to regular driving speed again since there's no point in going slow once you've p***ed the car. So that much wouldn't worry me. If you're just concerned in general, rig up a kill switch or take some other steps to make it harder to steal. My favorite was someone who rigged up the kill switch to their cigarette lighter, where pushing the lighter into the socket completed the circuit so the car could be started. Who'd ever think of that? I thought it was clever.
a mate had a fuel line cut off plumbed in under is seat. It won't stop them from stealing it, but they won't get very far....
Try and come up with anti-theft system and use it , after that dont worry cause thats just going to mess up the enjoyment of driving it.
If you begin to worry and nothing ever happens, you've worried for nothing. If you worry about it for years and then something does happen, you've simply started worrying too soon. Enjoy life! I'd go for a model 1911 in .45acp, personally. But the wad cutters are a nice touch.
I have a removable steering wheel and a kill switch in the car... the kill switch has it's own key and is somewhat hidden also..
just strap a 12 gauge to your back and scream about richard simmons video tapes. I know I would try to steal something that belonged to that type of a lunatic.
I knew a fellow who bought a line-lock (usually for doing burnouts and staging) and set it up with a toggle switch so he could lock up the brakes when parked, between that and a kill switch it was simple and worked well... Can't start it unless you know where the kill switch is, and you can't tow it or drag it onto a roll back without gathering lots of attention from the tires dragging...
