hey guys, i need to see if you think my bell housing is safe to use, as long as i dont abuse it. i am getting down to the end of this build, and you all know that the budget is out the window at this point. sbc tri five cast iron bell housing. i have two cracks that start at the bottom edge and run right thru the two inspection cover bolt holes. they stop about 1/2 inch past the holes. i dont remember them being there when i bought it, and have only used it for mock-up, never ran. i thought about drilling a hole at the end of the crack to stop it from running. i cant figure out how it cracked there, unless someone tried to use over size bolts, but the threads look perfect. also i wont be using the bell housing to frame mount ears. just the engine mounts and the muncie trans mount. do you think i can use this for awhile, or am i looking to damage something else, including my foot? thanks, pkj
okay if it is a saftey issue then i wont use. i dont know anyone in my area that can weld cast. so that leaves repairing it out. thanks for advice. think i will look for one of aluminum ones.
