OK, I've read and re-read this GREAT post and still not sure. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224124&showall=1 What will work on a 1960 389, intake wise? I want to swtich to a 4 barrel from a 2. Am I just limited to 55-60? Maybe up to 66? There seems to be subtle differences a**** the years. There doesn't seem to much as an aluminum intake (i.e. weiand, edelbrock, etc.) choice for this engine. There's acouple of the tri-power cast iron types though. Thanks. Let's hear it! Ken
www.lakeheaders.com has U-Fab intakes, not sure if he makes a Pontiac one, but if you make flanges you can buy a kit and make your own...
Ken, Yes, '55~'60 is the year span.. '61~'64 has the same bolt pattern but the water ports are different. Some of the aftermarket manifolds that cam out in the Early '60s had 2 water port locations & could be used from '55~'64, Like the Edelbrock EP4B Single 4bbl manifold, You just block off one of the ports with a freese plug for whichever year you need. I have one of these for sale if yer interested in a single 4bbl, I also have an original stock Pontiac 4bbl manifold. Many manifolds were made for these engines, I run a '60 389 in my '55 F~100 pick up with an OFFY 3x2 & 97's, Also have an Edelbrock 6x2 for 97's. But if you have a '60 389 with original '60 heads, Unless it its a dual water port manifol, '55~'60 is the manifold that fits.
I am searching for a 4 barrel manifold for my 55 Pontiac and came across your post. The post was dated 2/2008, so the manifold may already be gone. However, if you still have the single 4 barrel for the 55-64 time frame, I would be interested. Please e-mail me at kelandcarm@hur.midco.net if you still have one (or more than 1 from which to choose.) Thank you, Kelly
