Just a reminder to those who will be in Nor-Cal this weekend: 200+ wooden cars on the Santa Cruz Wharf. No admission charge. Saturday 6/28 dawn till 4ish.
How come they couldn't do it the next weekend??? Thats when I'll be up there goofing around. A car gig would be nice to check out while I'm there. Anything happening around the 4th of July weekend?
Woodies on the Wharf is a cool event to check out. Not a monster, but with the hot weather inland and smoke in air from fires should be worth going to.
I went a few years ago, it was weird ,the fog would sit at the end of the pier and 20 minutes later cover the pier, but 20 minutes later it was full sun......
Hey woody, is the pier near the boardwalk? I don't know S.C. that well.... I'm thinking of driving down for the day. Brian.
The peir is just north of the boardwalk, you can see one another from both. You will want to park on a side street near there and walk, the crowds are nuts in that part of town. Should be fun though.
The trick is to arrive as early as possible so you can park somewhere reasonably close. "Strike" is right: with the wharf, main beach, steamer lane, and boardwalk so close together it does get crowded. On the other hand the crowds are amusing enough that a long walk can be pretty fun too. If you can't make it Saturday, Friday nite and Sunday morning early there will be loads of woodies (at least 50) at & around the HQ hotel, the "Ocean Pacific" at the corner of Front and Washington Streets.
I'll be there round lunchtime for a couple of hours as I have to work till 3am Friday night, and will be going to work Sat night too...I'll be the English guy with the camera & most likely this....
Does your woodie have a conventional headliner since the top is metal. Are the exterior doors simulated wood with meatal frames with plywood on the inside. Do you have regutar windoe cranks for the gl***. Hope to make it there someday.
Wish I could be there! But I'm on the East coast Hope somebody posts some pics Like your Woody, 4woody
The '49 and '50 Mopars have a steel roof with a conventional fabric headliner. The doors and B and C pillars as well as the lift gate are 100% real wood inside and out. Front windows crank up and down, rears are sliders. Is it any wonder they stopped making woodies??
oooh! Woodies on the Wharf !! I always seem to miss that show. not this time though. thanks for posting.
If I was still in Calif. I'd be there. Wife and I always enjoyed this show, she sat on the beach, and I looked at the cars, followed by a nice meal. Dean
