I have accuired a large load of Early Dodge bodys & parts.

In the load is a 472 Cadillac & auto trans from a Late '60s Cad & the rear end.

Now i have NO interest in useing this engine EVER in ANYTHING, So i have to ask... Does anyone even consider using these things ?

Came from a running driving car & is complete.

Give me any info or if interested you can P/M me, Will Prolly have this at the roadster show for sale..

If its a Dead Player (which it is in my book) Ill drop it at the scrap yard & not even deal with it.

no interest. give it to me and I'll recycle it for you.

  7. 472's were torque monsters. We used to put them in the trucks to tow with. Tons of power and not that bad on fuel>>>>.

We are building this with a 472. But your average guy probably isn't interested. We're making most of the speed parts for it.

I'm sure that someone will want it, but I'm not sure what they're worth. Two years ago I junked a complete 1970 Sedan Deville with low miles to get the 472/400 for my '57 Coupe Deville.
Don't worry, I've since decided to keep the 365. But, anyway, I paid $150 for the whole thing.

A limited Positive interest..the 472-500s are great engines, gobs of HP, gobs of torque, for the weight of a small block....

    472/500's rule.
Don't just pitch it. At the very least, Craigslist that sucker and give it to a good home.

If I were closer, I would be on the way to Your place to pick it up.

    I wont just pich it....

I guess that was more of a "How I feel" than "What ill do" with it.

Ill run it down to the swap this weekend & then put it up For Sale.

Would be good for someone, Has HEI, 4bbl, & all the bolt on parts with a Trans.

Thought about it for my 1~Ton '55 Ford, But i already have a 454 Chev for that... I know.. Its a Chev but it was priced right & runs excellent !!

I bought the identical motor with trans, both good and running for $300. Like the caddy motors better than the belly buttons and there's a good following for them with speed parts. Mine's possibly going in the 40 coupe but I'm also looking for something else to put it in. I do things a bit backwards, I buy cars to fit motors instead of vice versa. :)

I'm using a 472 in my '36 "Fordillac", actually, the car is being built around the engine. I had the engine/trans in my '48 Pontiac for 20 years, and saved it when I put an LT1 in it about 5 years ago.

These are GREAT engines, with monster torque. They weigh within 50lbs of an SBC, are less than an inch wider, and the same length. Somebody out there outta snatch that up and use it.

I believe you must measure the stroke.

I think most times on these engines,it is done with a piece of welding wire,or equivalent, through a spark plug hole.

If memory serves,(sometimes), the 472 and 500 are the same bore.

if it is originally an hei engine, that would put it in the mid 70's. Still good hp and huge torque. The only way that I know fo to tell the differance between the 472 and 500 is by taking it apart for the crank numbers and telling the year would be by piston design. They are great engines that last a long time. They tend to run a little warmer because of the high nickel content in the casting but that also is why they don't weigh as much as other engines ans set up right they can also get decent mpg. There is a growing popularity for these and a good aftermarket for performance parts now. Keep it and use it or sell it BUT don't scrap it

Just to recap on this a Bit....

I looked at some Cadillac site that was refered earlier & posted it For Sale.... WITH ONE QUESTION !

I listed it on 5 Craigs List areas .... ONE CALL !!

I ended up selling it to RickyRacer on PAYMENTS cus i know him!

As i suspected, These Boat Anchor turds have VERY LITTLE INTEREST !!

I think i will Pass the next one right on to the Scrap Pile !

by swapping heads and some of the internals from the 472 into a 500 block you can get a killer bracket bomber Doc Fromoder did a whole book on this very subject. Should be able to get a copy from him at www.webrodder.com

The agreed price which was exactally what the Kid that owned wanted for it.

I was helping a Young Kid out to off all his ill fated attempts at building a Rod.

$500.00 for the 472 & turbo trans, Drive shaft, Rear end & wheels.

Funny thing is everyone says these are the shit when it comes up & how they would love to have it or say they want to buy it.... But noone steps up when it hits the want adds.. ANYWHERE.

My buddy did a swap with a 472 awhile back & he seems to like them but what i have seen very FEW people actually mess with them.

I understand why, They are Fuckin Ugly ass engines in my opinion, & they are HUGE.

They may be ugly and huge but the one I put into my 53 pontiac is out of a 72 and has 350 horse and 500 pounds of tourque STOCK! Slimmed down on acc. crap it weighs in at 45 pounds more than a 350 chevy! If I was anywhere near you I would have snapped it up fast as shit at that price. Oh and for the record, I'm one of those guys that NEVER checks craigslist.

A friend of mine's father was in the scrap buying business from the late 60s to the early 90s. I remember going out to the scrapyard when I was in high school. My buddy and I would get a car that came in as junk to the yard and get it running. S.O.P. was to remove all muffler type devices and ramp it like the Dukes of Hazzard. I'm lucky to be alive. Anyway he had been saving up a pile of early hemis (DeSoto, Dodge, Chrysler) and about 30 Air Force ground power units. About half the GPUs had flathead Ford V8s and the other half were Y-blocks. The GPUs all showed less than 1000 hours on them and looked excellent. He tried to sell them but nobody would give him enough money to even make it worth the time to not throw them away. Maybe with internet he would have been able to move them but that was not the case 20 years ago. They ALL went to scrap. A hundred bucks would have walked away with any of them. I kinda feel bad about all the great V8 engines he junked but then again if nobody will give you a fair price what are they really worth?
