I have what I was told was a Merc flatty at the house: I haven't yet measured the stroke, or even begun tearing it down yet. When I do, are there any machine shops here in Kansas City that are flathead-friendly? I've heard horror stories of folks taking their flatty in to a machine shop and having it destroyed, and figured I'd ask, so as to avoid that whole scene. Anybody got any suggestions as to who to go to? ~Jason
You might try giving Baxter's Ford Parts a call in Lawrence. They might know of somebody. 785-842-9256.
I know a guy in Girard, KS a few hours south of KC that can machine anything and has likely machined almost anything domestic you can think of, however, his wife is pretty sick with cancer so I don't know how much he is doing now. It may be too far anyway. Good Luck BlackCherry
H&H in downtown KC, behind "Bazooka showgirls".......they have been there for years......and have built a handful of Bonneville motors and tons of vintage 4banger/Flathead V8 motors.......the last time that I spoke with them about 2 or 3 years ago. Chris
Hey I would take it over to Ray Litrel in Claycomo. He is one of the two machine shops is Kansas City the still turn cranks! Here is his phone number 816-454-0934 He can do all the machine work in house and get all of your parts. Are you going to build this motor?
If it's good, it's something I'd like to do - build it, that is. Nothing too radical, though. Maybe just a tad hotted up, though. It's for a daily driver, or something that could be if needed. Ray's not too far from me (if he'd the guy I'm thinking about)- I'm a few blocks from I-35 & Chouteau. Hell, doesn't Ray do sandblasting and painting and stuff, or is he the guy with half a race car on his building? ~Jason
