    Cool stuff as usual!

Heres the only thing that Ive gotten dont that was worth posting this week.

Danish Bike Club Center Patch. It was supposed to be filled all in the same color and just black detail. This is the proof, Just checking to see that it sews well..... so Ill use any colors I damn well please! I personally would have done some more shading in it, but its one of those If they like it, I love it jobs.

Well here's what I've done this week, but no one will ever see it because it no longer exists!!

It was a small boot mural (about 200mm high) for a customer. And you know how much harder small artwork is.

When he first came in, he wanted a much simpler picture (the girl and flowers) so I estimated $800 + gst, and then he kept adding more complicated artwork ( the petrol bowser and oil cans and little writing), so I told him it would be about $1200.00 + gst.

The guy emailed to see how it was coming along so I told him it was finished and was just about to clear it. We never priced to clear it but the painter that did the car, came in and told us he had had enough of the owner, so he wasn't going to touch it.

So I charged him $1200.00 for the
mural,( I spent way over that, what with finding better pictures that I could actually work with and photshoping a quick visual for him to ok, and creating files to get the lettering that he HAD to have, printed because it was so small, about 35 hrs -40 hrs and I normally charge only $60 an hr for airbrushing), and $100 for the computer cut lettering and the printed lettering, and gave him the option of us clearing it at $200-$300 for clearing and buffing it, depending on the paint finish that was on the rest of the car ( we hadn't seen the whole car painted so don't know how flat the orange peel was buffed out).

Next thing, we have him turn up here yelling and shouting, calling us liars and saying that we had only quoted $800 all up and that he was going to bad mouth us to everyone.

I showed him a photo of a really basic two colour amateurish airbrushing that was at a car show, where I asked the guy how much he paid for it and he said he "had paid $900 and was happy with it and was happy just to have found some one that could do it!". He said he didn't care and when I showed him his compared to the photo and asked him if his was not far better and thus worth more, he said "no"!

    Man I saw red!!

So right in front of him I picked up my thinners rag and washed the mural off. I told him that if he couldn't appreciate the many hours (and many were after work hours and uncharged for), and the skill involved that I had put into creating his piece of art, then he couldn't have it!!

I washed it off completely and gave it back to him, and told him 'no charge".

    He was stunned.

I think he thought that If he kicked up enough of a fuss he would be able to screw me down and get his airbrushing cheap.I guess it didnt quite work out the way he had planned!!

Why is it that if someone commissions an artist to paint a picture on canvas they are prepared to pay what it costs but if they want (read, commission), a mural on their car or bike they squeal like a stuck pig??!!
