I remember seeing a post about it but has anyone actually done it?Cant afford to have my car flaked,so was gonna try it myself for the least $$$$
as far as i know if it's not real flake, the solvents in the paint will melt the flake and make a mess
I have used craft glitter a few times without any problems, but I would put some in the reducer to see if there is a reaction before you shoot your car!!
Theres some Black Magic spray stuff that you can spray on your car like spray paint and wash off whenever, I thought of getting some cause Advanced Auto is clearing it out
If you new where to look flake isnt that expensive to buy is you are going to do it yourself.... you still owe me money man... Funny how your ignored me at the BBQ!!! haha -Bigdaddy
i have gone around and around about this with guys before......yes check it in some thinner to see if it melts......BUT just because it doesn't melt doesn't mean it will last....i have seen some that after a while in the sun it fades like crazy.......my advise is to save your money and buy the real shit.......besides it is not that much in the grand total of the material costs when flaking a car.....the color and clear cost A LOT more........just my .02......
And some of the colors fade real fast. The proper stuff isn't real expensive,OSF is about $8 for 2 oz. http://www.innate.com/Paint/OSF/Regular%20Flake.htm The real money is in all the clear you'll need.
Remember if you want it smooth you have to be able to burry anything you put on and real flake is real thin so its easier to burry
another thing to remember... my dad always said......if you can't afford to do it right....you sure as hell can't afford to do it over........i try to live by that and it works......believe me i have done shit the cheap way before.and there is usually a very good reason it was cheaper......

and wheres a good place to buy it here?...........as far as the bbq went there was no ignoring......I walked in, saw you,sat down w/a beer, you left...........and im done talkin your bullschitt on here
you can buy it at various places you are going to pay alot for clear and make sure you get the good stuff... as far as talking bullshit.. no shit here just want my $200 you owe me and then everything will be A.O.K. -Bigdaddy
tell me what good clear is 100 bux...don't forget to add the hardner .....that clear cost can't include hardner............
My buddy flaked his shoebox with craft glitter. Looks real good but he said it was expensive cause he had to buy so much of it. Let me see if I can find a pic.
you CAN'T get "great" clear for $100/gallon, but you can get "ok" stuff for that. I used the Dupont Nason and it layed out really nice and finished out well. I tried the Transtar but didn't like it, it flowed TOO well for me. Don't skimp on the flake, it's about the cheapest ingredient to a flake job anyway so theres not much point. I haven't seen craft glitter last on anything that got alot of sun exposure, most of it I've seen either melts in the clear, or the color bled off of it into the clear.....and be sure to listen to ANYTHING donnie tells you about flake!
Well here it is..... Im low on the funds, probably enough just for the interior and odds and ends to finish the bucket,so might just paint it satin ???.....Landlord just told me today she is sellin the dump so Im gonna turn the bucket asap for some movin cash ...thanks for all the tips on the flake, will use it on a future project
I got a gallon of PPG clear and the hardner for $100 and some change ... I had a shop account... dont know if that makes a big diff....
