I got a 51 fleetline and just thinking about chopping it, probably not all by myself, but im curious about what to do in the trunk and back window area.
Choprods is your guy. He chalked out a really cool way to do it when I was at his shop this past weekend...never woulda thought to do it that way! (The man KNOWS his chops! ) I have a 49 Fleetline...so I asked him how he'd do it! I like his idea, but better to let HIM explain it to ya...I'd fuck something up in translation, I'm sure!
Hack, I didn't know you had a Fleetline. I don't have any intentions of chopping mine (I really don't think they need it) but if I did, I'd want it to look like this.
I love chopped fleets, and there is a guy on oregon coast who sells new front one piece and new back glass cheep like 289 and 245 thats dollars. In green tint Damn I love green time.
I have a liner also, will get the treatment someday, the chop has to be just right on a liner, or they look rerrible
I did a 50 fastback about 10 years ago , you HAVE to pie section the trunk lid. They just dont work without it. This also answers your rear window question as the cut is done below it , through the rear shelf area , leaving the window untouched.. I did a 41 Buick fastback the same way but the trunk lid was a single glassfibre skin , so we pushed it flat , trimmed the edges to fit back in its hole and screwed in place while wooden stringers were glassed to the rear to hold the shape !! (not the recommended way to do it!!) I dont have any pics to hand but will look some out , I removed the pillar also and replaced it with a Hirohata style curved trim. This was equally as important to me as the trunk sectioning as I feel some chopped Fleetlines can look wrong in the rear side glass area. If anyone has the article on the 'LOW FLYERS' in Custom Car magazine , showing where the original founder members cars are , perhaps they could post the picture of my 50 on here from it ? This shows the car set up in this format , just before I sold it
Chopping a 49-52 Fleetline is on my "To Do" list, would like to see some step by step photos of a good chop. The key to a good chop is redoing the trunk lid. The following photos were taken at Goodguys Rhinebeck, N.Y. in 2003
If thats an olds someone did a lot of work to make it look like a pontiac. I need to do the same mods to my fender skirts. I sure like the red one
