Freaking out, Trans Question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fast Eddie, Jun 28, 2008.

  1. So im driving back from sloan, and just about to my house when the ****** starts slipping. I look back and im trailing fluid. I baby it home, mostly coasting. I get to the driveway and i have no power. Turns out a fluid line came off. I had those *****es tight. Anyways. Is that the beginning of the end for my ******. Its practicly out of fluid but i didn't put any power to it once it was doing that. It was a fresh rebuid this winter.

    Oh its a th350

It should be ok, sounds like it just lost pressure

  3. I went to go get pizza so i followed the path. The hose never leaked, i hit a sunken manhole and the whole thing just blasted off. Left a trail for about 1.4 miles to my driveway. About half of it was without me knowing, then the last half i babied it because it was slipping. Fluid was still drizzling out at the driveway when i had no locking. Im just worried i did a lot of damage on a new transmission.

hopefully it didn't hurt it but as they lose fluid they lose pressure and don't want to move. AFAIK the only thing you can do without tearing into it is refill it and see if you can go for a ride. Hopefully that's all it needs

you should be fine but i do have 1 question

are you running solid tube to the cooler or do you have a flex joint in the system...a flex joint helps with vibration which causes part to loosen or break...ie a rubber section about 3 or 4 inches long

  6. It was a flex hose that went to my cooler that poped off. Ill have to clean it all up, fill it and give it a try. Hope for the best.

Try using a fuel injection hose clamp instead of a gear clamp. They hold better. That is if you were using hose clamps............

I had a similar thing happen. Refilled the ****** and it died in less than 1000 miles. My hoseclamps didn't hold and it dumped the fluid out in a similar fashion.

I went to 37 degree flared fittings and hydraulic hose. I expect they'll outlive the car.

Whenever I'm putting a hose on that I want to make sure doesn't off I flare the tube so that the clamp has something to hold it on

Same thing happened to me... at the muffler shop... where they had just redone the concrete. Luckily they were friends of mine and pretty easy going. To make a long story short I filled the trans back up after reconnecting everything and it was fine. The first clamp that blew off was for fuel injection line though...
    Good Luck,
