Who cares? Shes a teen pop star, she's into the fashion and wears whats trendy. You are going to bash a 20 yr old girl for not knowing her 50's custom car history??? Really??? Who looks like a fool in that?
That one is the best question posted here. I never met or knew the man, but from the conclusion I've come to based on what is posted here, I think I know a few men like him. We all have our demons to face, some do a better job facing them then others. The battle between good and bad rages on in our minds constantly, sometimes one wins, sometimes the other wins. The outside world always wants to judge us based on what they can see. Unfortunately we can only see some of the outward results of those inner battles. People look to many things in the hope of winning a few of those inner battles. Based on the info presented here, it seems as though Mr. Howard's inner battles were handled better on some days then on other days. The many facets of Mr Howard. Hopefully at the end he was able to come to terms with his demons. We only have one judge that matters, and one day we will all face him. The saddest part of the whole thing is that so many will look at Mr. Howard's life as a good example on how to live. There are many much better examples to follow, try following someone that strived to make this world a better place then it was before. Gene
If you read the book "Sundays with Von Dutch" , it sheds a different light on the subject, circa 1970. Available on Amazon.com
This sold for $32,200 in May of 2006. It was 14X18 inches enamel on a board. I went to the auction more out of being curious than anything else. Many Von Dutch, Roth and other items were being offered for auction. My main interest was the Roth stuff, but Dutch's art was a look into his mind. It was overly complicated, some with very political overtones and some was almost childlike in its designs. The audience was a mix of everything from Billy Gibbons to Hollywood art-farts who probably wouldn't know a hot rod from a pizza, but, they all have money. I was hoping to buy one of Dutch's screwdrivers just for the novelty factor, but they were going for $2,600 and $2,000 for a hammer. What the hell are you going to do with a $2,000 hammer? The goofballs and speculators priced everyone else out of the auction. Even the auction company officials were stunned at the prices that these guys were paying. I took $3,000 with me, bought an auction poster and came home with $2,985. I'll start a thread of the items, photos and their sale prices someday....
There are a lot of folks out there that have spent a lifetime slingin One-shot and still managed to be civil and good people. We all deal with people on a daily basis and manage to do it without being a jerk. Von Dutch, with all his ramblings, was not much in the final ****ysis. This is an independent opinion, made without the knowing the man.
There is a great tale of him in "Secrets of Speed". You gotta be a banger guy to enjoy that story! Von Dutch was bad ***.
so i guess that waitress' and waiters, cops, bartenders, computer tech support people and anyone else who serves the public with a smile is a racist loser in your mind too cause they deal with people who have their skull encased in their colon? get ****in real
I never thought my question would stir up so much. Anybody have any other good pictures of Von Dutch on their computer? I'm looking for a picture to draw and I'm just too lazy and cheap to buy a book for reference...
