Hey guys, I watched this go off on Ebay last week and I was wondering whether the seller or buyer was on here. I know its not everybodys cup of tea but I think the imagination behind it is wonderful. Its definitely not traditional and I'll probably get flamed for posting it but that doesn't matter to me. I applaud the builder for stepping outside the box and doing what he wanted. Its that kind of imagination that transcends the hot rod world. Its not setting the hot rod world on its ear but it is another start in a different direction. I see how the Rudy truck inspired others to build, and thats a good thing. Thats not to excuse the 90% of the rudy truck wannabe's that have been built that are absolutely horrendous, its seeing the other 10% that are actually eye pleasing of flowing metal. Looking at this car, you can pick on this and that as its definitely not perfect, but thats besides the point. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pont...hash=item250259701538&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318
What a sickining demise for that Lil Pontiac Tempest Now i need a whole roll of TUMMS ! Tumm ~ Ta ~ Tum ~ Tum ~~ Tummm's
I like it. I doubt the seller was a HAMBer, they used the "r-r" term in the ***le. No self respecting HAMBer would do that.
ha,,,,i do that every time i have something on ebay that is hot rod related,,,, a good way to get your chit noticed....unforutunatly ...if you want the most people to see it on ebay....
Your right about that. I think that term is used to describe lazy, unsafe and an excuse to be cheap for cheaps sake. Or if you want to sell something on Ebay Its definitely unique, and its got a style to it. I think the early sixties rides tend to add an positive effect to this. The linear designs definitely flow. I think the 'lil Tempest could have meet an even nastier demise, so thumbs up.
I think one of the guys in the Last Original's CC in Cali built it. There was an article about them in the latest Gearhead mag I've managed to buy. And, on eBay, you'd be a fool to sell anything mildly traditional without putting the word R*t Rod in your ad somewhere. People who read OSR have green money and use the search feature, too. Well, at least those of the OSR readers who can actually read, but Rat is one of the 3 or 4 words they reliably spell right in that rag...
I like it, but wouldn't pay that much for it. Really liked the way he had to mention it was a "safe" car.
To me, it looks like the builder has been on here and saw some similar creations, attempted it themselves, and then realized it's a lot more work then they thought and sort of gave up. Looks unfinished to me. Cool attempt though. The fact that he says "rat rod" as a selling term is a put-off.
Yuck! The guy built that, nearly from SCRATCH, and he couldn't get the radiator shell even with the cowl. I hate rat rodz.
Thats one of the things that turns me off is that the grill shell is kind of an afterthought. I read the ad and it looks like the guy that sold it on ebay wasn't the actual builder, so maybe he bought it and added the "Rat Rod" to sell it. It does look like maybe this is a multi person project car.
isnt there one of those every other month on there? i know i have seen more than one of those. gross then, still gross now
needs some white 1" pleat tuck-n-roll, a ****load of chrome, and a bad*** lime green with scallops paint job. maybe a blown nailhead with 6 carbs, ... and a new grille shell like the outlaw or something.... do it up like a Weesner drawing
i was about to say,,,,,if WEESNER,SKRATCH,PLOWBOY,MORIARTY posted a pick of that...,,or any other big HAMB fanclub king member posted it as theirs, this would be a 6 page thread already.....people would be picking their jaws off the floor and...everyother 'sheeple' would be posting their PRAISE,..... ...hahhhaa
Sam, your right but thats the nature of the game. I see that most that don't like it are thoughs who never actually built anything. Thats not really why I posted it. I actually posted to give props to the owner or builder if he was a HAMBer. To give inspiration to those true builders who are extremely talented. There are more than quite a few of them on here. You have to wade through the posts of those who actually spend more time trying to come up with a good thread flame job than actually spend trying to build a cool ride. When I look at this car, I don't see it as an end game. I see it as a springboard. I see this car and look past the sum of the parts. This car is definitely cool but not just because if what it is, but what can be.
personally, i like it. but, putting the r-- r-- name on it doesn't do it any help. i think it would look better if it were painted pagan gold, with lots of metalflake or pearl. i think the guy should have used a pontiac mill....like a 389 or a 421 with multi-carbs on it. but either way...i still like it.
