So it's looking like i'll be picking up a '56 Ford Fairlane Victoria tomorrow after work. An old resto thats starting to get cancer again.

The car has been sitting outside for a number of years and a mouse (or mice) has set up camp inside. I'm thinking in the front seat, as there are foam-rubber bits all over the floor near the drivers scuff-plate.

My question is this: How do I get rid of the mice without ripping the car apart? The interior, while tired, is still very usable....and i can't afford to re-do seats just yet.

...oh, and i'm allergic to cats...so deep-6 any ideas about locking one in there overnight:)

Decon always seems to do the trick. Either that or set off a couple M80s they should stun it long enough to find it and remove it.

Well, I hate being cruel to animals, but pour a can of Coke into a pie plate being careful not to let it fizz and leave it in the car or around it if it's in a garage. The mice will drink it since it's sweet, but the carbonation will expand their stomachs (they can't burp) and make them unable to breathe and move.

Castor sugar mixed with plaster powder in a little bowl on the floor, with a bowl of water next to it. Mouse eats dry sugar/plaster mix, gets all thirsty from the dry powder and drinks. Plaster sets hard in its gut and it can't eat, so starves to death.

You'll be able to find it easily after the car's sat for a couple of days in the sun.

    Cheers, Glen.

We have them still, my dad seems to think we have an infestation, the dog notices them too but every time he hears one he looks at his ass...not as smooth as dad.

i think mothballs will do the trick.
but, you'll need a magnifying glass to see them.(the moth balls).

Well, that being the case, while looking for weed killer at Lowes the other day, I did see some kind of powder/pellets that was supposed to repel rodents.

  15. unfourtunatly if the car is infested you might have to remove the interior. The little bastards can get into the smallest space, and they might be breeding. I picked up a barn find that was in great shape but came with about 12 mice living in it.

First thing i did was set a mouse trap with peanut butter to catch one to see what kind of mouse it was. They piss everywhere and depending on the type of mouse thier shit can dry and if inhaled is toxic. So catch one and try to determine if it is a brown, field mouse etc.

Then i took out the seats, carpet to start and cleaned them. i only cought about 3 but i could hear more in the car. They were in the headliner. they would take the stuffing from the seats up into the headliner to nest. So i had to replace the headliner as when the car sat in the sun it stunk pretty bad.

So i simply used mouse traps to catch them all (about 12) and then i cut about 1 inch slits in the headliner and using a spray bottle sprayed warm water mixed with bleach to soak up all of the stuffing and mouse shit in the headliner so when i ripped down the headliner a mushroom cloud of toxic dust didnt come flyout out. i ripped the headliner out and i had almost all of my front seat stuffing come down, enough to fill a small green garbage bag. of course i had rubber gloves and a respirator etc.

So after that i had to wire wheel the floor and roof and then use anti rust paint to seal it.

Anyway i hope that yours isnt that bad but i would take the time to make sure it is mouse free as well as clean.

    have fun!

  19. In a car, a snake would probably work better than a cat.

Actually, a plastic 5-gallon bucket with an inch or so of leftover oil in it works.

For whatever reason they're attracted to it, but once covered in oil they can't climb out.

I found this out when I changed the oil in a lawnmower and set the bucket down and forgot about it in the garage for an extended period. I went to dump it finally and it had 4 or 5 big lumps in it. The lumps had legs and tails...

But if it has mice in it, you have to clean out the interior anyways, if you gut it all out of there that should help. They don't like to be disturbed. I found a nest of them in a tool box in a box van I bought for storage, opened the top and it was full of nest materials and I could see a mouse and a baby. I just left it alone... a few weeks later, check it again, no signs of life.

By the way, if you happen to find little pink hairless wriggly things? Really little baby mice, on the level of newborns. Moved some pallets that sat outside a couple years ago and used one to set a motor on and here's all these things on the deck of the truck.. so I look close, and they have just enough limbs and things to tell they're mice. Probably not something you'd want a bunch of to fall in your hair or down your shirt.

    Good old fashioned rat/mouse poison.

I hate hurting animals but rodent piss
is unbearable. I have tried every form
of cruelty free rodent control. They all
failed. I went on to regular traps, the
snapping kind, they kind of work. Poison
works fast and efficiently. Cheap too, pick
up at your local grocery store.

The poison is designed to dehydrate the critter.
The thought is they will come out of their nest
in search of water, therefore not dying in your car.

Mice are vermin. They're destructive and spread disease. Don't be a wuss: kill them.
And if they've been living there a while, plan on (at the very least) stripping the interior out of your car and cleaning it thoroughly. I found mouse turds in the heating ducts and in the under-seat heater of my '54 Buick, not to mention the stinking nests up under the dash, under the back seat and tucked waaaaay up in the rear fender wells, where the trunk area meets the back seat divider.

moth balls... a friend just used them to clear out his garage. Gary

  24. Sticky traps do not kill them, and if you want to be buddies and save it/them, I think veggie oil or mineral oil releases the glue.

take a sticky trap and stick 5 pieces of dry dog or cat food kernels on it. Right down the middle. You will soon see how big your infestation is.

We had a bad year one time and I was catching 15-20 a night per trap.

I just tossed them in the trash, until I found out the snakes and lizards were plucking them off the traps at night. I have lots of snakes hanging around now, and no mice.

the way i always get rid of them is buy some of that mice stuff that they have at the store and they look like little cubes. Mice seem to like it and once they take a bite out of it they'll be gone for sure. and if you put some of them all throughout the car they will die off eventually guaranteed.. Hope this help..the picture above with the cat is hilarious
