I need to fill up the power steering pump on my 56 Buick, and on the cap it says to use Type A transmission fluid. Of course, this stuff is obsolete, or so I ***ume since I can't find it anywhere. Given that, what are you Buick guys running in your power steering pumps? Type F ****** fluid? Dextron? Regular ol power steering fluid? Thanks gang!
gas giant. you can still buy type a fluid at places like big lots or freds, and even some parts stores.i have some ultramatic packards that take this type of fluid.hope this helps.have a great day.
The difference between type A and F being that type A is softer, more compressable, so type F gives firmer shifts. I find it hard to believe that your power steering would give a damn.
type F would be a replacement. however, i have found type A ****** fluid at some of the Dollar Stores (Dollar Tree, Dollar General, etc.) around town. might want to check there if that's what you're looking for.
You can google it, I know theres a website that has a conversion and compatibility chart on it. I found it a few months ago.
An old timer who's owned his own transmission shop for 30+ years advised me "When in doubt use type red" Myself, I'd use type F.
Use type A or dexron II or III. You can still get type A at some of those convenience stores at trucks stops.
