you all have had great suggestions for me so I want to pick some sharp minds out there for ideas.. I am in the process of buying new wheels for my my Studebaker... I really want white wall tires but cannot really justify the $200-250 per tire from Coker..(I'm sure there fine tires) but I want a lower cost option. I saw on "youtube" a video where a newer tire (with a narrow white wall) was sanded down to create a 3" or 4" white wall. Has anyone tired this? What are some other options out there? Ideas? Thank you all in advance.
I'd check with Les Schwab or Tire Factory and see if they could come up with a wide white that would suit your needs. The kids with the low riders over here are running some pretty nice looking wide whitewalls that probably come from one or the other of those sources. Some narrow whites are a lot wider than other too so that might be a good start if you want to see if you can have someone cut the inner black ring off and buff the white up.
Ive ground em down, they look alrite. Just gotta find the ones that work...right width, smooth edge of the white, etc. Tire paint might work, never done it tho. I daily drove the grinders, a few sets (2 different Mercs a 50 and 51) and wouldnt hesitate doing it again. But they didnt look like Cokers or DB. They would have looked better if I took more time (smoothing) but I rushed. Was just stoked to get those fuggin bias plys off and track straight for once.
The funny thing is my local Les Schwab orders from Coker.. the store mgr told me he only gets 5% off cost.. but thanks for the idea...
