Nagoya--about 5/6 or so hours north of Yokohama/Tokyo

  3. Yup, and proud of it.
After what they did to members of my family I will always have the same opinion. And yes I have been to Japan, gave me even less of an opinion than the one I had.

  4. personally, I am ****er for fresh sushi and the Tokyo fish market has the best. There are 10 small restaurants in the fish market, they open at 0330 or some ungodly hour and most of the time are standing room only and have an hour plus wait, but supposed to be the best and most fresh sashimi anywhere. mmmm....market fresh bluefin toro...

No, he's just apparently quite ignant. Correction, overly ignant.

  6. if he is up for self inflicted atrocities he can go to the memorial in Okinawa, where the locals were told the the invading American soldiers would eat the babies and **** the women...just like the Japanese (minus the baby eating), so they went and threw themselves off the cliffs. my father went there, the locals were not to pleased to have a round eye checking the place out.

The Japanese are also well known revisionist historians...just ask the Chinese.

Tokyo/Yokohama has far too much going on to take in on one day. Maybe just walk around a bit, take in what you can.
For a different perspective in Hiroshima, you could check out the A-bomb memorial museum.
If you could swing a trip to Kyoto (the old Capital and center of traditional Japanese art and culture), you could check out Kinkakuji, the Golden Temple and many other points of historic/cultural interest in a day.

Don't underestimate how long it will take you to get around by car. Take the train, outside of peak it is still an experience. Personally, I wouldn't be doing stuff I could do at home, I'd be checking out the different culture.

Having said that, Roppongi is a pretty good party area, check out Electric Town - Akihabara (?), and the Ginza after dark.

I was in the Bar of the Tokyo Hilton about 1am once and met a young woman in a blue dress that I wouldn't mind running into again. Depends on the dollar-yen exchange rate I guess.

  16. I will be heading back over next week. Will look around for upcoming events, etc. Drop me a line as well. If nothing else, just jump on a train and experience the city. Be aware, the "pond jump" may take some out of ya, you may not WANT to do anything the first couple of days there....

There is only ONE perspective on Hiroshima. The one that was fresh in the memories of our soldiers and government that was trying to stop a ruthless, barbaric war machine that was laying waste to Asia, attacked us unprovoked, brainwashed their citizens into thinking it was better to kill themselves and their children rather than surrender to us, beat/tortured/****d/murdered civilian and military prisoners, and would have cost 1 million US killed and wounded had we been forced to invade the country rather than use nukes to drive home the point that they had already lost the war.

The reasons that you state for justifying use of "the bomb" are of course CORRECT and a matter of historic record, there is however more than one perspective.
For example, a five year old girl close to ground zoro, who knows nothing of the atrocities of the Japanese Imperial Army.
