C'mon, you think the Dems would kick in for keeping any petrol powered dream alive?

Anyway, Ermie Immerso(SPL?!), built the Track Star with some sort of exotic DOHC indy motor, don't know why I can't remember what it was exactly...... mated to a turtle deck'd T roadster. Pretty gaudy, although, the basic idea would be bitchin' for a REAL race car!!!

  6. I'd love to know which class record you feel is "soft". The fairly recent rear engine modified roadster class would be neat, and that wideish motor would fit in a heart beat in a '27. Let me know if you need a "deal" on one. I've got connections....Rich

  7. Now that is a cool find...and high-fives to you & yours for persevering.

You may know this already, but the Coyote is essentially Ford's 255 DOHC Indy engine from the '60s...when Ford backed out of racing, the tooling was sold to A.J. There were changes over the Ford years, but my understanding is that A.J. left it alone for the most part. One parts source, along with knowledge...http://www.cushmancompetition.com/255Parts.html

Yeah if you've ever drove the backway to Baldwin on 56 from Gardner you'd seen it everytime. So same here, I bet I'd been by there 100ish times. It was my dad that remembered the whole deal.

No ideas on what class is going to happen. We made a list, and will try to figure out which one is the easiest (still hard of course) to try and shoot for as well as most economical. And yeah racing is never economical, I know that.

I have read a lot of the history. And AJ's chief mechanic has been of some help. We got ahold of the SAE whitepaper on the motor so thats been a huge help.
When AJ sold out, a place near St. Louis bought everything. And theres a dude in Florida that is into them. There are parts abound.....or should those be $$$$$ DAMN!

I just watched a My Classic Car episode and it showed Jay Leno with a Merlin powered roadster. You can probably go to the website and find the episode.

My dad was sort of an eccentric in regards to engines. He bought (for scrap) an old Allison aircraft engine that was used to pressurize oil wells...every bit as big as the Merlin. His plan was to machine out parts of the head, block, intake, etc., to make a visual display of all of the parts working in unison. He never got around to it; passed away, and left me to deal with the behemoth. I sold it to a guy in Dallas for 2 grand, and his plans were to put it in a drag boat or some other insane project like that.

PS: If you ever need any help or an extra hand, give me a call; I'm not that far away from SL.

I offered it to the Confederate Air Force if they'd come pick it up, but they declined the offer, stating that their junk yard was already full of Allisons.

Anyway, what a cool story and a great find!! The Foyt Coyote looks to be in great shape considering where its been all these years. Good luck with it!

i love weird motors. I am suprised that a collection would be together after this long. It sucks that it had to be broken up but totally understandable. Good luck on the salt i hope it does well.

Put it on a 20 bicycle, that's what we did back in '67. Not only stupid but dangerous, oh yeah, and FUN!
